A cat named Jaspers is already dead once the story starts. Dave accidentally sends a katana through a crow, killing it. A cat named Frigglish (Jaspers from another timeline) accidentally gets smashed by a book. Bec Noir, half human half dog, gets his arm chopped off and punched into the ground. (Does not die, though.)

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
The same cat is found dead twice. First time is presumed he's been hit by a car as he is found by the road, but in the main character's next life, after she finds the cat dead under her bed, is revealed that the cat had a heart condition that caused his dead in both lives and there is no way to change his fate in other lives because of it.

Light spoilers ahead
In chapter 11, if you get the hardcover copy of the book, there’s a picture of a shadowy cat to warn you that this chapter has the main character’s cat’s death. In that edition, the death of the cat is described on the bottom of page 225-226. There will be mentions of a grand oak tree. Skip until a character says “No sorcery today, aye?” I think that avoids the worst of it.

Baz goes into a neighborhood and uses "Here kitty kitty" to attract and kill 9 cats. It is mentioned a couple of times but never explicitly described. Still upset me a bit as a cat lover because it felt very unnecessary for the story.

The father-in-law of a character who has been feeding a feral tabby cat is described as drowning the kitty because she is pregnant. Everyone is very blasé about it needing to die one way or another. Very upsetting.

Really terrible and traumatic cat death considering how much it was built up to rescuing the cat before it is beat to death viciously with a shovel. Near the end of the book.
