They threaten to euthanize the dog because she is a pit bull mix and the city laws say she can't stay there. She faces some dangers and is away from her owner for a long time. But I don't agree that it isnt a feel good dog movie because the whole plot is about her love for her owner and her motivation to return to him.

Just FYI, the dog in this book is old, and she is going through the kinds of things that elderly German shepherds go through (hips, eyesight, etc). It is GUT WRENCHING to listen to if you've ever had a dog or have a dog now, and you've watched them age and suffer. You've been warned.
