[SPOILERS] Jeremy attempts to kill his wife multiple times, but only because he reads her memoir where she describes abusing their children. Ultimately, he does kill her (by choking).

Disturbing scenes of child abuse/neglect: in her memoir, Verity describes neglecting her infant daughters, and at one point attempts to kill one of them by blocking her throat. Lowen also implies that she was abused by her mother as a child but this isn't described, and she dismisses it as "nowhere near as bad" as what Verity did.

Lowen uses (prescription) Xanax and there is some implication that she may have illicitly used morphine in the past.

It's subtly implied that Lowen has issues with substance abuse: at stressful moments she seems dependent on Xanax and/or alcohol, and at one point she longs for some morphine. Weirdly, the book doesn't really address this, it's just there in the background.

Verity performs oral sex on her husband while he's sleeping and therefore unable to consent, although the book doesn't treat it like sexual assault.

Suicide is mentioned but does not happen in the book. There's a possibility that Verity's car crash (in which she didn't die) may have been a suicide attempt.

[SPOILERS] In Verity's memoir, she writes about hating her pregnancy after her husband said he loved her unborn children more than he loved her. She doesn't try to get an abortion through legal means, but she tries to induce miscarriage by drinking etc and later tries to perform a DIY abortion with a wire coathanger. It does not work. The book implicitly shames Verity for wanting to end her pregnancy, treating it as inherently evil, and could definitely be triggering for people who have had abortions.
