Towards the end, a hate crime against a trans woman is described. The author uses the term "transvestite", which isn't technically a slur, but could still make people uncomfortable.
A character (who is in prison) is said to have murdered a sex worker who was referred to as a tr*nsv*stite (due to the book's setting of the late 80s, when this terminology was in use). If the reader interprets this sex worker as a trans woman, then she is misgendered in the scene. The scene itself is rather short and this passage is easily skipped over.
Technically, a minor character, the aunt and her lover, both die, but it's not too major, one due to a stroke, they go to her funeral, one due to cancer, but this one was briefly mentioned.
