Jet (Piper's dog) makes it to the end of the movie, but the pitbull he used to play with is killed off screen. We don't see him dying, but the boy says that the enemy soldiers killed him.
About 3/4ths through the movie, soldiers are shown assaulting women, dragging them through the woods as they cry, forcing them onto the hoods of cars while they protest, etc.
One character's mother had passed away before the beginning of the film, and it is mentioned a couple of times, and later revealed that the mother died in childbirth. Everyone else's parents are implied or likely to have died during the war.
A person appears to have obsessive-compulsive disorder (it isn't named in the film), and controls her food intake/refuses food in ways that may be triggering for people. Toward the end of the film, she says that "she used her willpower in stupid ways, like not eating chocolate".
A character cuts their finger, and someone else sucks off the blood. Soldiers are shown with bullet wounds to their heads. A boy is shot and dies, with blood visible. Corpses shown in multiple scenes.
About a quarter of the way into the film, there is a nuclear explosion. The characters feel the blast wave and see ash raining from the sky. The bombing is discussed on television. There is a strong sense of foreboding leading up to the event
Soldiers shoot through the wall of a barn, putting children in danger, and the children are led out at gunpoint. Men are shown with bullet holes in their heads. A boy is shot and injured, dying as his friends watch, with blood visible. Lots of misc. shooting. A girl uses a handgun to shoot people who are pursuing them.
