The deadites keep the memories of their hosts and can also switch to seem like they're confused. It's one of their famous ruses that they use to trick people into letting them in.
The deadite mother is very murderously violent to her children but it is very clear that she is a deadite and not their actual mother. It does not take the children very long at all to work out that she is not their mother anymore.
For the sake of foreshadowing, they mention that a neighbor's cat often hides in the vents. There was no audio gore or on camera depiction of anything happening to the cat. The deadite simply uses the vents as a pathway.
When the book is uncovered, roaches fly at and swarm the kid and it’s very loud. There are close ups with flies a few times (one touching the mom’s open eye), and one of the kids 3/4ths the way through the movie v/mits up a mixture of foo and what look like maggots, roaches, and/or flies. There is also a fly trap in the very beginning with a ton of flies on it
When the mom first turns, they try to put her in the bath and she flails a LOT. Not exactly enough to seem like she’s forced underwater but it’s clear that the water is harming her in a similar way
Like the other person said, there's the body tied up, but you'll also want to avoid watching just after the evil spirit stops screaming at Ellie in the elevator, because it escalates things physically after that.
In the elevator there's a reference to the tree posession...method...with loose wires but it doesn't go up her leg, just stops at the ankle. Having seen enough Evil Dead movies, it was enough to make me anxious, but I was so relieved when it didn't go all the way.
No there isn’t but the elevator scene early on is sort of an homage to the tree troupe used in the previous movies, where it r/ped her in the first one
SPOILERS: a girl eats glass and you see it come through her neck, which is probably disturbing if you’re bothered by cutting. And then there’s the cheese grater on the leg, which is unpleasant.
At 31 mins 50 seconds a rope / electric cable from the elevator is dropped down and wraps around a persons neck lifting them up in the air. The person struggles, and tries to escape. Other ropes then also wrap around the persons arms and legs. The person screams in pain and the scene changes. There are no other scenes of this nature from their onward.
A lot of bones breaking and cracking. During Ellie’s possession her back and body move in a disturbing way and it’s loud asf. If you don’t like the sounds, this isn’t the movie for you.
Yes very early on in the movie. When a character falls off a bed in the cabin, don’t watch.
Another scene is later when the main characters are trying to take someone to the elevator.
There is a scene with a tattoo needle coming VERY close to someone’s eye as well as a guy getting his eye bitten and his eyeball being spit into another guy’s mouth. Don’t know if it’s worth mentioning but there’s also a fly that crawls on the mom’s open eyeball as well that could trigger people as well
Actually, yes. The young boy clearly throws himself at both his mum and his older sister to save his younger sister, which consequentially leads to him being killed instead of the little sister.
Yes. It’s pretty sad and disturbing how they die, especially the youngest daughter having to see most of her family as deadites. They are visibly dead and corpse-like, though they can walk and speak.
First jumpscare of the movie is when one character jumps into the hole created by the earthquake. There is a jumpscare of a crucifix swinging at them (Jesus' face in question is the scare).
following up with another comment, there is another bathroom scene (spoiler) with the mom where they put her in the bath and she does some possessed person shenanigans
Definite emetophobia warning for this movie. I have a bit of a list that I wrote while I was watching just now. Spoilers ahead:
1. After the cousin falls off the bed in the opening scene and wakes up, she projectile v*s. A lot.
2. After the mum crushes the eggs everywhere and falls down, she starts to crawl out of the kitchen and then v*s. A LOOOOT.
3. The sister (Bridgette) has a bunch of black liquid coming from her mouth and she drinks water to get rid of it, but she v*s it up with bugs in it.
4. I'm sorry, I don't exactly remember when for this one, but Bridgette v*d blood on Dan when she's attacking him.
Hope this helps!
The mom is a tattoo artist and when attacking in a scene she tries to use the needle gun for it. Worth mentioning that there’s also a screwdriver driven into someone’s neck that bothered me for similar reasons
One of the characters is implied to be trans (played by a trans actor) and is always reffered to by correct name and pronouns. There are also no deadite insults alluding to him being trans/making fun of him for being trans
Literally not sure what this other comment is talking about; there was no black person in the movie. only POC rep was a Latinx family next door.
Even then, if you’re wanna get real about it, Ellie ‘dies’ before they do.
You people don’t realise that misogyny is also hate speech. The deadites constantly call the main sister a “whore” and other derogatory terms. So yes, there is.
I would say no, but there's still one scene that could be uncomfortable if you're a survivor where a woman is pinned to the ground by her sister and her sister trails her face along her torso. I don't think this scene is intended to be sexual but again could still be uncomfortable or triggering if you're a survivor of incest.
Technically No, but after Ellie becomes possessed she does exhibit some behaviors like slurred speech, jerky movements, seems to be speaking nonsense and doing nonsense actions and then collapses and v*s. Kind of stroke like behavior, especially when they’re discussing it later as her method of death.
A demon implies that a pregnant woman’s embryo has a soul to torment her about killing it. The demon is prevented from reaching into her stomach to kill the embryo.
there's a part where a car's tire gets stuck in a hole in the ground, and they kind of make a squealing sound while the car stays in place? im not sure if that counts as a tire screech or not.
Not technically, but car is prevented from moving because of earthquake damage (pavement had cracked and shifted, acted as a wedge blocking forward movement)
