As a new day begins in the town of Silverton, its residents have little reason to believe it will be anything other than ordinary. Mother Nature, however has other plans. In the span of just a few hours, an unprecedented onslaught of powerful tornadoes ravages Silverton. Storm trackers predict that the worst is still to come, as terrified residents seek shelter, and professional storm-chasers run toward the danger, hoping to study the phenomenon close up and get a once-in-a-lifetime shot.

No dogs die - other than a search dog in the background at the end the only other dog on-screen is found by the father & son Trey (just after setting off from the school to search for the other son) wandering amongst the ruins which leads the duo to find the dogs elderly owner stuck in his car & in need of assistance. At the end of the film we see the man giving a time capsule interview with his dog roaming around behind him.
2 of the town daredevils (who repeatedly provide comic relief through the film) are shown to be intoxicated on the town street right before the second tornado hits, but very little of the actual drinking is shown
When the 2 characters are stuck in a small space slowly filling with water they find themselves with less and less breathing space, until last second when help arrives. One of the 2 characters still drowns though when he is pinned underwater during the rescue, however he is resuscitated immediately
Not as such, but a building collapses on top of some people and they are trapped under rubble effectively buried under it. There is also a claustrophobic scene where some people are sheltering in a storm drain.
One character drowns but is resuscitated immediately afterwards and lives. Although there is long scenes of the characters stuck in a place slowly filling with water, both the characters believe they are going to die, and just barely survive
