The retelling of France's iconic but ill-fated queen, Marie Antoinette. From her betrothal and marriage to Louis XVI at 15 to her reign as queen at 19 and ultimately the fall of Versailles.
This movie contains 16 potentially triggering events.
A small pug with a pink bow tied around its neck, named Mops, is taken away from a heartbroken Marie Antoinette by a French Soldier and carried off-screen. It's not seen for the rest of the movie, though it is mentioned as Marie asks when they will be able to return the small dog back to her. It is a bit upsetting, as Marie tears up at the loss of her companion, and he is never seen from again. There are many other dogs, but they are all fine.
Not necessarily, but Louis XVI shows signs he might be autistic (special interest in locks, poor understanding of social cues, etc) and his ineptitude in bed is a source of much frustration from Antoinette
Marie Antoinette absolutely has a gambling addiction (as the real queen did in history) and there are many scenes of her gambling. She continues to gamble away the crown's money.
Marie Antoinette is 14 when she marries the 15-year-old Louis so this was historically a child marriage, but the actors themselves definitely look much older. There's no explicit pedophilia but the other members of the court are *very* invested in the sex life of the couple.
There is a quick scene that implies the birth, and near-immediate death of a child, including a coffin being carried away. Two remaining children are left with their fates uncertain, and research into the history shows one does not survive the revolution
Marie Antoinette is only 14 when she becomes queen. Although the actor who plays her is over 18, there is a scene of her behind. She is also expected to sleep with the king at 14 and it’s a major plot point, however i’m pretty sure they never sleep together before she’s 18
Marie Antoinette is early on in the movie objectified. An older man asks how big her breasts are and then when he meets her looks at them. She’s 14 at that point. Throughout the movie it’s a big plot point consisting of wether Antoinette and the King will be able to have a baby and many people talk about it but i wouldn’t say either of them are objectified
A major source of conflict is whether or not Marie Antoinette and her husband, Louis Auguste, will be able to consummate their marriage- altogether, it's quite ridiculous and hilarious. Additionally, there is a scene where the old king and his mistress roll around in a bed. And there is scene where Marie has an affair with a soldier. There is no nudity, but it can be a bit uncomfortable to watch next to your parents.
