In the thick of the French Revolution, members of the so-called lower classes are rising up to fight inequality. Meanwhile, Richter Belmont senses a far grimmer and greater danger. He's picked up his family's long-held tradition of vampire hunting, a vocation that goes back almost as long as a vampiric life span (in other words, forever) but he's never seen anything quite like what he's witnessing now.
This tv show contains 51 potentially triggering events.
The horses that pull the cart of the Vampire Messiah are alive and well. However, in the final episode they become frightened but this only takes a few seconds.
There is a feline character that resembles a huge cat / lion hybrid but so far it's still alive. It did get injured while fighting but it's still alive.
No, but there's a Night Creature with extra limbs. However, it does not look too spider/arachnid and still walks on two legs instead of using all limbs.
No, but one vampire has the ability to turn into a large, snake-like serpent. Presumably inspired by the Quetzalcoatl. Later in the season we also learn that this vampire has Aztec roots/heritage.
Season 1: No, but in the finale pisode, there's a chubby Night Creature who resembles a giant moth. Only seen quickly and slain as quickly too. In the first episode there's a Night Creature with insect-like limbs and wings.
Vampires bite the neck/throat of several humans. Some vampires are stabbed in the neck. In the final episode, a sword is stabbed through a main villain's throat in a close-up shot.
If you have ommetaphobia (fear of eyes) there are a few scenes where there are closeups of a characters intense facial expression, with large, often bulging eyes.
Similar to the anime trope where a character is about to go insane, and they have this fish-eye perspective. That's used in this show as well.
In episode 1, season 1 it's Richter as a child.
In episode 2, season 1 it's Tera's sister as she is tied up.
Somewhere in the final episodes of season 1 it's a vampire.
No, but a teenage girl is asked by an antagonist if she is a virgin. The girl's age is ambiguous, but it can be assumed she is a minor based on how her family speaks of her.
The very first scene of the very first episode is the protagonist witnessing his mother's death. Tera also reveals she was forced to mercy kill her sister after she was turned into a vampire.
There's one towards the end of the series when Richter is ambushed by a bunch of vampires. The camera lingers on a shot of the dark forest, so there's a pretty big tell.
A mansion is located in the centre of a lake. The main characters have to traverse this lake at one point in the series. In one of the final episodes, Richter is seen nearby a lake/a large body of water.
No. Some of the aristocrats are wearing masks but these resemble luxury masks or Venizian masks. I don't know where else I'd put this possible warning.
Not in the more stereotypical sense but Night Creatures used to be humans. In this show some of the Night Creatures (partially) remember their past as a human, while others don't and are used to fight for the vampires.
At one point Maria injures her upper arm which Annette later fixes with something resembling voodoo magic by stitching up a piece of cloth, while Maria's injury is also stitched together again. The needle is not very visible, but the act of the wound closing is obvious.
First episode:
- brief fireworks in the beginning
- when a vampire is lit on fire. It's very bright.
- there is a Lot especially in the beginning, most magics: Fire, Lightning, etc all have some very flashy, strobing effects to them.
- I would highly reccomend watching in a brightly lit room, or during the day time.
No, however if you are sensitive to depictions of racial prejudice I will warn you that Annette's backstory has her being treated poorly by her white slave owners.
SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 2
Technically the first death happens in a flashback but in episode two a prominent Black character died in a way that certainly felt evocative of this trope to me. This person was newly introduced and died suddenly and unceremoniously before we got to spend much time with them. This death isn’t brushed off nor is it the end of that character’s presence in the series but I’d definitely say it qualifies.
Spoilers
It’s the Castlevania anime so the church is very present and very evil. A lot of it was hard for me to listen to, priests invoking religion to demonize anyone they disagree with or don’t understand while at the same time using their religion to justify truly horrific actions. These people are presented as the villains they are but it does feel very real so if you have religious trauma beware it may be rough for you.
A few, but no genitals are shown. Two men are shown naked on a bed together, implied to have just had sex. There are other instances of naked characters, but they are very much NOT played for sexual gratification.
Sort of. There's a lot of talk about darkness and light and who will win in the end. Some characters have a grim outlook on life and feel hopeless in this dark world.
