Yes, it’s kinda a reoccurring theme.
Sokka and Katara’s father had to leave them to go off to war. They have not seen or heard from him in years.
(Mild spoilers) A major part of Zuko’s backstory is that his father banished him and sent him on a “mission” that he did not expect him to ever return from.
(Mild spoilers) There is also an incident in E4 where Aang is able to briefly interact with his (deceased) father figure but it’s only temporary. When Aang returns to see him again, he is no longer there, and Aang seems to feel hurt by this.
There will be other instances in future seasons (assuming the show includes the other plot points and backstories from the cartoon).

Ozai’s children will continue to idolize and obey their abusive father throughout much of the series. When Ozai’s abusive actions are pointed out, they will often defend him.

You dont see him get the burn but its from a fight. You hear his scream.
Also in the first episode the children of the air nomads are cowering in fear as someone invades their home to kill them. You dont see them die but it is heavily implied.

No but in later seasons (mild/vague spoilers) there will likely be animal exploitation in a circus-like environment.

The “avatar state” looks a bit like possession. And in a way, it is. When in the avatar state, the avatar is possessed by the spirits of all the previous avatars. Initially this is involuntary, but later Aang learns to control it.

TheCassandraComplex
The spiritual aspects of the series are largely based in Eastern philosophies and Dharmic religions, so there’s no Judeo-Christian capital H Hell. There was a hell-like realm in The Legend of Korra but I don’t think it was mentioned in The Last Airbender, so it’s unlikely to be a part of the live action version. That said, there are demon-like entities, a spirit realm that’s fairly complex (there are good parts and bad/scary parts), and an afterlife of sorts.
