Llewelyn Moss stumbles upon dead bodies, $2 million and a hoard of heroin in a Texas desert, but methodical killer Anton Chigurh comes looking for it, with local sheriff Ed Tom Bell hot on his trail. The roles of prey and predator blur as the violent pursuit of money and justice collide.
This movie contains 48 potentially triggering events.
The villain uses the chain on a pair of handcuffs to choke a cop to death. This happens very early in the film, where the cop is talking about an oxygen tank.
There are a few scenes of grevious bodily harm done by a shotgun. Near the very end of the movie there is a graphic, open fracture of an arm. I don't know if it rises quite to the level of true body horror but these scenes are very realistically gory and violent.
Most of the weapons used by the main characters in the film leave shotgun style blasts with lots of small hole. Best to look away at wound or wound cleaning close ups.
Carla Jean’s mother complains about having “the cancer” several times throughout the third act. She’s never in a hospital and shows no obvious symptoms, but she dies suddenly offscreen near the end. Unclear whether she actually had it.
I know derealization is a big trigger for alot of people because it is like really serious so do not watch this movie if you do not like derealization.
A brief scene in a petrol station where Javier Bardem chews sweets noisily. Turn the volume off and subs on, until he throws the wrapper on the counter.
The whole movie is an existential look at human nature and the general outlook is pretty bleak. Ed Tom has a monolog about the nature of evil, using examples of people he arrested in his career.
Anton Chigurh reduces several characters' lives down to the luck of a coin toss. In a roundabout way he talks about fate to both the gas station owner and Carla Jean.
