A restaurant employee wanted for murder contracts Ebola by raping a woman in South Africa and starts an outbreak there and in Hong Kong when he returns home.
This movie contains 31 potentially triggering events.
South African police department doesn't believe a Chinese woman's tip-off about a murderer at large, and are kind of portrayed as callous and inept, but the Hong Kong police investigation team is a sympathetic group of characters who always do what they're supposed to do and want you to root for them.
Chinese characters die first, but I do feel it's worth mentioning that this movie does show black people in South Africa dying in very graphic ways from the ebola virus, and lingers on the disfigurement of their bodies.
One character is a drug addict, I think to meth or cocaine? He also might have had an alcohol addiction. He is a minor figure and only shows up toward the end.
There are real dead animals in this movie, some of which are killed on screen - notably, three live chickens are killed during the scene at the Zulu village. Two have their heads chopped off with a knife, the third has its head torn off by a human in the course of about 3 seconds. Very graphic.
If you count showing real dead animals on screen/killing animals on screen, than yes, a lot.
If you are more worried about seeing live animals physically or emotionally mistreated as a part of the storyline, watch out for the scene where three live chickens are beheaded. One of these has its head slowly ripped off by a human. Otherwise, all the animals which show up are treated fine, or they were already dead before being dismembered on screen.
All of the dead animals in this move are real, not trained animals pretending. There are dead frogs (which a restaurant cook dismembers in a professional looking, but still graphic, manner), several slaughtered pigs, three live chickens which are killed on screen, and a roadkill mouse that gets run over by a car. There is also a lot of cut up animal meat in the restaurant cooler.
Yes, in at least two extended and graphic scenes.
[Spoilers --->] A Zulu woman collapses from being sick and a man assaults her while she is dying. The same man later assaults his boss's wife with a lot of spite and cruelty, before killing her and her husband.
Not epileptic seizures, but a big thing in the movie is that people fall down and start to convulse violently right before they die from contracting the virus. This happens a dozen times at least, and it very much looks like they are all having seizures.
Several instances of vomiting, it's one of the symptoms of viral infection right before someone dies in the movie. It looks pretty gross. There are also two women who are nauseated by the gore and retch several times before throwing up, one into a toilet, the other into a bucket (but you mostly just hear it in their cases, not see it).
A woman saw her family killed when she was a child, and was almost killed herself by the same man. The way she acts in the movie looked a lot like post-traumatic stress to me.
