When strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, people are drawn outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. Now the band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.
This movie contains 4 potentially triggering events.
The aliens sort of eat some people (gross detail: sometimes abduct by having tentacles come out of their feet and absorb people.) Then at the end of the film we see they're basically harvesting brains and putting them into alien/machine bodies.
Didn't see a more accurate option listed here for this film, but FYI the pregnant woman (and her tiny little infant/baby that doesn't show but may be important for some folks searching for triggers) survives to the end of the film / entire film and it's open ended with implied survival (or at least hope) for her. Otherwise, no kids in the film. Few characters are actually in the film, it's very much the core group, a few temporary side characters, and aliens.
Around 1:13:00 (over an hour into the film) when one character loses hope of survival, he sets it up so he takes one of the aliens with him when they inevitably come for him. He very much was not going to survive the situation, but there was some planning to it so I thought it worth mentioning. It involves a stove and a match.
The ships/monsters have bright lights that sometimes flare over the screen. No flashing lights for over a minute. Also flashes from gunfire but not covering the whole screen and not prolonged.
White guy dies first. Then Terry saves the second guy before he dies. I checked ahead to see if Terry survives the movie, and it's kind of ambiguous but probably not good. It happens after they take two cars and leave the lot. 'The group take two cars from the underground parking lot and try to leave. However, as soon as Terry's car is out of the gate, an alien tanker crushes the car underfoot.' Terry escapes this part, but then the aliens take him.
I'm 26 minutes in and there's already a gun, but it hasn't been fired / is a precaution for when they go out to investigate (the alien invasion.) I expect there will be more guns or gunfire once the action gets going. Gun fired in self defense against an alien at about 36 minutes, the first gunfire I noticed in the film.
