New York detective Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of mysterious deaths in which the victims are found beheaded. But the locals believe the culprit to be none other than the ghost of the legendary Headless Horseman.
This movie contains 38 potentially triggering events.
*SPOILER* The mother is killed and the reasoning is implied to be that she was murdered for being "witch-adjacent." The child found her body and is severely traumatized by this
A horse dies slowly while it’s owner holds it. A bat is grabbed and killed for a witch’s ritual. A cardinal we were previously delighted by is crushed in a witch’s hand. A dead crow’s leg is cut off for another ritual.
At the very beginning of the movie there is a courtroom scene and someone is trapped in an iron frame. Right before this scene in there is a dungeon/prison scene where someone is being dragged by two policemen and then thrown down a pit.
A woman cuts her hand - the scene is when a man is on top of her, so that's when you know to look away if it bothers you. There's also a flashback scene where a child stumbles and their hand accidentally lands on a spiked surface which causes blood to spurt out.
There is a scene involving fire, but no one is burned alive in this movie. Additionally, it is set in 1799 so there are no cars. I think the previous commenter may be mistaking this film for a different production of Sleepy Hollow as there have been many iterations.
Not completely squashed but there is a scene where after a beheading, the murderer takes a sword and impales the head to collect it, so it kind of squishes there.
this is a subjective question, but yes there is blood and some gore. The blood is typically a candy apple red shade, which might help some folks who are more bothered by realistic blood which is much darker.
Ichabod (Johnny Depp) Follows a hooded figure into the forest at night, which leads him to find Katrina’s Stepmother and another man laying on top of her in a sexual manner.
The previous commenter mentioned episodes, they must be watching something different. This is a movie; there are no episodes. No needles or syringes are used though the main character carries scary looking medical gadgets he designed himself that do no harm to people.
I’d say the headless horseman kind of “stalks” his victims before beheading them. Ichabod follows a hooded figure in the night. Ichabod’s father appears outside of a window in a dream/flashback of young Ichabod’s. there may be more, but there’s no full-on stalking.
Not shown, just talked about, but Lady Van tassel reveals that when she was younger, her, her mother, and her sister were kicked out of their house by their landlord shortly after the death of her father. I’d say it’s implied they were homeless for a while.
A character is shot, this happens when they enter the church at around 1 hour and 15 minutes. The headless horseman is also shot at on several occasions in the movie.
