In the early 1970s, Dr. Henry West creates an institute to find people with supernatural abilities. When Judith Winstead comes to the facility, she exhibits amazing abilities that the military wants to turn into a weapon.
This movie contains 8 potentially triggering events.
During a scene where a woman is being tested for clairvoyance she is being watched by soldiers with guard dogs. The test (mentioned in another content warning above) involves making a dissected frog’s heart beat. When the test goes wrong and the dead frog’s heart explodes the soldiers menace her with the dogs. One of the dogs falls on its side and the soldiers exclaim that she is doing the same thing to the dog, but there is no gore and the dog doesn’t explicitly die onscreen.
Major spoilers: the military tries to forcibly transfer the demon from Judith to a soldier, but this goes wrong, and the demon possesses the doctor instead. In the process everyone observing the process is killed and the lab is destroyed. The demon kills Judith as well before vanishing. The ending text informs the audience that the doctor’s whereabouts remain unknown.
there is security camera footage shown of an incident containing two characters and a different character who's seen the footage comments that they don't even think one of the characters knew they were being recorded
it's a fictional movie made to look like a real documentary so there are many instances of characters talking to/looking at the camera but i don't think this counts as breaking the fourth wall
The premise of the movie is that a bunch of scientists are researching psychic abilities and are testing a woman’s supposed psychic powers. A lot of the things they do to her including shocking her with electricity to subdue her, keeping her in restraints, subjecting her to loud noise/music and flashing lights, and repeatedly gassing her are forms of torture, in addition to the non-consensual psychiatric experimentation.
While initially not kidnapping, it’s clear that Judith (the woman they are testing for psychic abilities) is not free to leave the facility and is also frequently held in restraints and not allowed to move around the facility freely.
Major spoilers: The woman being tested for psychic powers is actually possessed by a demon, and the scientist leading the project is ultimately possessed by the demon as well.
While not an actual mental institution, a lot of the treatment (like being held in medical restraints and electroshock therapy) Judith experiences while being held in the facility is comparable to psychiatric abuse and potentially triggering for people with institutionalization related trauma.
