The plot heavily revolves around the protagonist kidnapping and tormenting his wife because he suspects she's cheating on him, which is played for comedy. The movie (or at least the husband) argue that he's doing her a favor, since she's grown dissatisfied with her life and he's giving her "an adventure".
The antagonist woman is slapped hard across the face multiple times throughout one scene, while her employer berates her. It is played for shock value, yes.
