TV weatherman Bill Harding is trying to get his tornado-hunter wife, Jo, to sign divorce papers so he can marry his girlfriend Melissa. But Mother Nature, in the form of a series of intense storms sweeping across Oklahoma, has other plans. Soon the three have joined the team of stormchasers as they attempt to insert a revolutionary measuring device into the very heart of several extremely violent tornados.
This movie contains 26 potentially triggering events.
In the beginning, the family dog barely makes it into the bunker, but does get in and is unharmed, although very scared.
Later on, Aunt Meg’s house gets hit by an F-4, and she has a golden retriever named Mose. Bill and Jo go into the house and rescue both her and Mose before the house collapses. Mose is completely unharmed and sitting pretty in the ambulance without a scatch :)
Jo's crew and Dr. Jonas Miller's crew (rivals) have similar plans. Ironically, both end up in the same places during most of the storms. They accuse each other of copying ideas.
Towards the end of the film, during an F5 tornado, 2 horses on a farm are seen trying to escape the path of the tornado and it looks worrying. However they thankfully do survive and you see them after the tornado ends.
Bill has to be physically held back by most of the crew while he’s trying to fight Jonas. Multiple times, Bill also restrains Jo (for various reasons, namely the Dorothy sensors)
While rescuing Aunt Mae after the tornado, Jo and Bill call for her but get no response. She is later shown with Mose (her dog) lying under debris. It appears she is unconscious at that time, but when they get to her and pull the debris off, she sits up and talks to them.
Aunt Meg gets her wrist broken in the tornado but it isn’t seen happening and you don’t see the injury until she’s wearing a brace in the back of an ambulance
One character is a reproduction therapist, and you hear her talking to a client on the phone, and she says “penis”. At the end of the film there is a kiss. All pretty PG.
Pretty much throughout the whole movie— the main characters are storm chasers and spend the majority of the time driving around, complete with honking and tire screeching.
