Follow the adventures of Belle, a bright young woman who finds herself in the castle of a prince who's been turned into a mysterious beast. With the help of the castle's enchanted staff, Belle soon learns the most important lesson of all -- that true beauty comes from within.
This movie contains 27 potentially triggering events.
Both Gaston and the Beast display intimidating behaviours towards Belle. Gaston corners her in a room, and the Beast yells and smashes inanimate objects. But overall not that violent for most of the time.
It's Disney, so nothing graphic, but there is some animal death. Gaston is a hunter, and the tavern is decorated with animal heads from his hunts. In the scene where he's introduced, he shoots a bird, and we see its body fall to the ground.
At first Maurice is captured by the Beast. To be fair... he did tell the Beast he needed a place to stay. The Beast did accomodate. Belle then trades her freedom for her father's when she realizes how sick he is. The Beast is no happier in the situation than she is but after getting to know her a little (and falling in love with her) the Beast sets her free.
During the song "Gaston", the lyric "in a spitting match, nobody spits like Gaston" is followed by Gaston chewing off piece of a belt and spitting it at a lamp. It ricochets around the room until Lefou catches it in a spitoon and then drops the spitoon on his head.
I love how many people have said no considering the main location is an enchanted castle where all the furniture is sentient and a full Ziegfeld follies style performance is made out of serving dinner. It’s not a stressful or dark representation of unhinged reality but it’s still very much on the side of surreal.
The Beast laments his monstrous looks after the Sorceress turned him into a monster. Depending on what version you're watching, the enchanted staff members sing a whole song on wanting to be human again.
Mainly Gaston's sexism and misogyny. In the beginning of the movie he's against Belle reading because else she might begin thinking and getting ideas. The intro song portrays Belle as strange because she likes to read. Other than that, no aggressive, direct hate speech.
There is very mild blood/gore. During Belle's escape, she and her horse are attacked by wolves, though neither of them are harmed. Beast intervenes and is scratched, leaving three red claw marks on his arm. Aside from the color, there is nothing graphic about the injury, and after Belle treats and bandages the wound we don't see it again.
