Father and son coroners receive a mysterious unidentified corpse with no apparent cause of death. As they attempt to examine the beautiful young "Jane Doe," they discover increasingly bizarre clues that hold the key to her terrifying secrets.
This movie contains 52 potentially triggering events.
Could possibly be construed as victim capitulating to their aggressor: one could argue that Jane Doe('s spirit) terrorizing Austin and Tommy is abuse, and SPOILER toward the end of the film, Tommy concedes to her and basically asks her to take him as a sacrifice in exchange for his son not being harmed.
SPOILER The spirits/corpses follow the main characters around the morgue, forcing them to hide and attempting to attack them repeatedly. Could definitely be construed as stalking.
The cat Stanley dies and it is all shown gruesomely. Fast forward from 34:00 to 37:00 to skip everything related to the cats death.
Things not related to the cat during these 3 minutes that will be skipped: Emile Hirsch sees shadow in mirror & the father cuts his own hand badly during autopsy.
The morgue has an old cat, Stanley, who used to belong to Mrs. Tilden before her death. When Jane Doe is wheeled in, Stanley growls at the body, which is an early sign she isn't what she seems. The cat is later found heavily injured inside the vents with labored breathing. Tommy cradles him, before euthanizing him by snapping his neck, putting the body into the furnace after. The Tildens reflect on the cat and the mother's own passing for a bit before continuing with the autopsy. It's heavily implied the cat was injured by Jane Doe.
No but the coroners examine the vagina of a corpse, and later determine her soul to still be alive inside her body. So she didn’t consent to that vaginal exam.
Not alive, but a burn victim's corpse is shown, it's heavily implied that a person was tortured by burning (their burnt lungs are shown), and a corpse is lit on fire.
It's a horror film about an autopsy, so you can expect some of this going in. As the autopsy goes on, Jane Doe shows increasingly bizarre traits, as, despite looking intact outwardly, she shows signs of her being savagely tortured internally, such as scars and burning of her organs, a tattoo on the inside of her skin, and shattered limbs. It's eventually revealed she's kept alive through supernatural means. Late into the movie, a character offers to 'feel what she felt', which results in him gaining her injuries in graphic detail.
Jane Doe has broken bones when they find her dead. Tommy (the dad) has broken bones later in the movie. Also, this movie is about an autopsy, which is shown on screen. At least twice you hear the sound of ribs cracking as they open the corpses' chests.
Tommy accidentally cuts his wrist on the corpse's exposed ribs, they also take a sample of material underneath the corpse's fingernail but it's by no means mutilation
the results of jane doe being tortured are shown during the autopsy, her tongue was cut out, her tooth was pulled, her ankles and wrists were shattered, she suffered lacerations on her internal organs and the interior of a certain "private area"
A corps with her eyes and mouth sewed shut is shown briefly a few times. The corps of a burn victim is shown and one of his eyes is plainly visible and has some damage from the even. On-screen mutilation does not occur.
No dead bodies were possessed by a ghost, only animated by witchcraft, Jane Doe was a witch, not a ghost, because it is revealed in the movie when Tommy and Austin look at a part of her brain that she is actually alive. No ghosts appear in this movie.
Noone alive in the film has cancer, but cancer is referenced: Cause of death listed on one cadaver is mesothelioma. After the Y-incision, it's asked if some abnormalities under Jane Doe's skin may be melanoma. Neither body shows visible signs of cancer.
No but a corset is thought to be worn by Jane Doe before her death and autopsy. Her very small waist is commented on, as well as Jane Doe is extremely thin and it shows her body many times.
The body of a victim is shown through a tissue with a large gaping gunshot wound in his face. They mention suicide as a possible cause of death. It is ultimately not. It is hinted that the main character’s mother committed suicide before the movie took place.
The opening scene includes some very bright camera flashes, about four or five, spaces a few seconds apart that was almost like a strobe light as well
Edit: there are a few more instances of this camera flash later in the movie during autopsies. Also, the whole screen flashes white whenever this effect occurs.
Nudity is different from sexual content. Although Jane Doe is nude throughout the whole movie, there are no sexual references, actions, or comments made about her nude body.
