A sung-through adaptation of Homer's Odyssey inspired by musical theater, it tells the story of Odysseus as he tries to return from Troy to Ithaca after the ten-year-long Trojan War. Along the way, he must face gods and monsters that attempt to prevent him from returning to his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus.
This movie contains 32 potentially triggering events.
Not overtly; in the odyssey, Odysseus’ dog does die, however, this is only briefly referenced by the dog appearing once in the song Legendary, but never again in EPIC.
Depends on animatics but rarely properly. Circe’s chest is out in Anniflamma’s There Are Other Ways and some Aphrodite interpretations are… pretty underdressed
No, but a very very small amount of the fandom ships Telemachus and Antinous. Antinous is abusive and horrible.
Also, Odysseus says he “loves” (platonically) the person who kept him captive for 7 years, tried to force him to love her, and in the original myth, SA’d him, although that’s noot confirmed in epic itself. It’s unclear how genuinely he means it tho.
In the official animatic for King; it was dark a)d I kept looking away so I couldn’t be sure but I’m pretty sure Ody did decapitate someone. He is very very violent, to prove a point and stuff, but also it’s very dramatic and intense.
Poseidon is stabbed in the throat, even with out animatic you can hear the gurgle.. Antinous is shot through the neck and dies, you hear it quite audibly and it is shown in official animatic.
As an autistic person, I hate the sound at the end of There Are Other Ways when Circe talks of the prophet, and open arms feels a bit odd on my ears. A bit hard. Idk how it works for others but yeah.
Odysseus is tied to a statue during Mutiny. A song is called “Hold them down” referring to restraint in an attempt to kill & SA individuals even though the plans aren’t followed up on.
Maybe? Depends on how your phobia works. Ody is tied to a statue, and there are some caves and situations with no exit.
The suitors plan to “hold [Penelope and Telemachus] down”. In Odysseus the suitors are locked inside the castle as Odysseus hunts them down.
Athena’s been watching Telemachus and also shuffles through Ody’s memories. Odysseus lurks in the shadows during the sing Odysseus. Everyone knows he’s somewhere but not where.
God Games mentions the words “prisoner” and “imprisoned”, however this is referring to:
- Ody being tied up in Mutiny.
- Ody being trapped on Calypso’s island
Penelope’s suitors are terrible to her son, Telemachus. One challenged him to a fight, and they’re all very mean. However, at this time, he is 20. We don’t know if the problems were still there when he was younger though.
One character gets drunk and falls off a roof. This is briefly referenced in some animatics but never explicitly mentioned or shown; just mentioned in epic through numbers
Sheep and Cattle are killed. Odysseus's dog dies in the source material, but this is only vaguely referenced by having him appear once in "Legendary" and then never again.
A cyclops’ sheep is killed and he’s very sad about it.
A sun God’s cattle is harmed, possibly killed.
Ody’s dog is briefly implied to have died but not really overtly. You wouldn’t know if the creator didn’t say.
Yes. Poseidon holds Odysseus under water with his trident, almost killing him.
Antinous mentions wanting to hold Telemachus down, I’m not sure but I’ve heard someone say he means underwater
YES
ODYSSEUS SPECIFICALLY SAYS “YOU PLANNED TO RAPE MY WIFE”
Antinous and suitors are talking of their plans, though they don’t use the word, it is very triggering in Hold Them Down.
Some Love In Paradise and Not Sorry For Loving You animatics imply SA to various extents as the Odyssey generally is translated as this happening, but it is not referenced in epic and most animators add tws.
No, BUT there are references to SA.
In There Are Other Ways, Circe seduces Odysseus, however she does accept his “no” so that’s not too bad I guess.
In Thunder Bringer, Zeus uses a metaphor of “pride is a damsel in distress, hiding away where only (he) can undress her” which is kinda gross and a little uncomfortable. This is purely metaphorical and no one is actually being assaulted.
In Legendary, Antinous mentions wanting to “have fun” with Penelope.
Love In Paradise involves a probably abusive, one sided relationship with Calypso. Whether or not this involves SA isn’t confirmed, besides the source material clearly stating it as such. Many changes have been made though.
IN THE ITHACA SAGA, THERE IS A SONG called Hold Them Down, about wanting to kill Telemachus & r a p e Penelope. It’s very unsettling.
READ THIS:
The canon animatic for Hold Them Down has Antinous talking about r/ping Penelope & in the background there are outlines of Penelope on the floor, distressed. She is dressed, and no one is touching her, but it is very much implied what is happening.
MINOR SPOILERS: 600 strike. Distressing.
MAJOR SPOILERS: Poseidon is stabbed by Odysseus many many times as a way to get him to call off a storm. Poseidon says “you can’t kill me” to which Ody replies “exactly”. Even tho we hate Poseidon, it’s a distressing scene, even without the canon animatic.
In certain animatics, especially to Scylla, Survive and Odysseus. Audio gore in the actual songs is low.
This has changed after the Vengeance saga.
Audio gore is moderate.
Some animatics have lots of blood
This has changed more after the Ithaca Saga.
YES AUDIO GORE LEVELS ARE MODERATE TO HIGH
HIGH GORE: 600 strike; Odysseus
MID: Scylla, Survive
LOW: Mutiny, Horse and the Infant
animatics for these songs vary, official and unofficial. Many artists add TWs but canon animatics from livestreams dont always have these and can be intense
Our little sunshine boy Polites is dead 😭💔
It’s very emotional & referenced again and again.
All of Ody’s crew, including Eurylochus, eventually die, and Athena is implied to be dead (tho theories theorise otherwise)
Update: Athena’s fine.
Penelope and Telemachus are out in danger but are fine.
Yes. Tiresias is canonically blind and his actor is not. Generally, his blindness isn’t mentioned much in epic, but the cast made a video about Tiresias & Hermes in which the actor of Tiresias pretended to be blind & they made jokes about it.
Athena gains a scar and possible one eye blindness as it does change appearance and is played by a voice actor with no known history of blindness.
Hephaestus is well known for being a disabled god in most media, often due to his fall from Olympus as an infant. He is not portrayed as having a visible disability in the canon animatics. Jay’s dad, who plays Hephaestus, is not known to have a disability.
I don't know if it necessarily counts as attempting suicide, but at the end of Love in Paradise Odysseus is on the edge of a cliff and it is heavily implied he is thinking of jumping. He ends up calling to Athena for help instead.
There’s a dream sequence in keep your friends close and it’s a little unclear when he’s asleep and when he’s awake. Monster also has some aspects that don’t quite feel real, and may be in his head.
Yes in multiple battle scenes you can hear the screams of Odysseus and his men, as well as the screams of the suitors in the Ithaca saga when Odysseus returns and finds out what they were trying to do and hunts them down
There Are Other Ways is a little spicy, and certain animatics are especially so, however, the audio isn’t that bad and no one actually does it.
As mentioned, there are mentions of r a p e but nothing actually happens as far as we are aware. (At time of writing, seven of nine sagas are released along with snippets of the last two)
Edit: nothing happens but it is talked about.
