Mia, a young woman struggling with sobriety, heads to a remote cabin with a group of friends where the discovery of a Book of the Dead unwittingly summon up dormant demons which possess the youngsters one-by-one.
This movie contains 80 potentially triggering events.
Beloved family dog found whimpering in pain, having hidden himself away to suffer and die horribly. His head is a bloody mess. In flashback, revealed that his brains were bashed in with a hammer by a trusted family member, presumably after he friendily approached her. He dies in physical pain and emotional confusion. Absolutely gut-wrenching and wholly unnecessary.
Mia is being tortured by the demon and not believed, her friends think she’s just trying to get them to take her away from the cabin. Mia acts like she’s fine and no longer possessed to get David and Natalie to let her out of the basement (she is definitely still possessed)
yes, by a clear plastic bag. the character (possessed by a demon and lying) sounds totally human for a minute, panicking and screaming that they can’t breathe
-a character’s hand is shot with a nail gun repeatedly.
-a character’s hand is trapped under a rolled vehicle, and we can see the hand due to the placement of the car’s window. the character ends up breaking their arm and sliding all their hand tissue off to get out.
-a character is bitten deeply in the hand by a possessed human. there is a 3-4 minute scene of the character trying to wash the wound, black blood clots popping out of the teeth marks, then the hand turns necrotic. the character ends up cutting their arm off at the bicep
-a character is beaten with a crowbar, including both hands/wrists
-unsure if this was hand or arm, but a character’s limb is shot clean off near the wrist/hand/arm
-the nurse character puts a needle into Mia’s hand vein
i think there might even be more, but since i don’t have this phobia i can’t remember.
Demon backs off to let their victim wake up with a plastic bag over her head before taking control of her again. After regaining control the demon struggles to breathe loudly as a scare tactic.
One hand just gets mauled apart by a crowbar, another gets shot off by a shotgun. Someone's hand gets trapped under a car and they have to rip their hand off to get free. Its more arm/wrist mutilation but I'm not sure where else to put this.
When the blonde girl goes to wash off her hand after she is bitten, her hand has holes in it from the bite wound. Blood oozes out of the holes and it is pretty gross.
Syringes are used medically but there is also a graphic scene where a character is repeatedly stabbed violently with a syringe. If this is a trigger for you it will be pretty scary.
Possessed characters mutilate themselves because they’re controlled by demons.
For example, a character amputates their own arm with an electric knife. They make no attempt to dress the wound or save their own life. They eventually die.
Brother shoots a can of gas with buckshot to explode the cabin him and the host of the demon are in to purify the demon's host. I see it more as a sacrifice because he wasn't depressed or wanting to die but I understand how it could be triggering and seen as suicide.
The first death is NOT a black character, actually. The opening has a white character die burning alive. However, the first of the main cast to die IS in fact the only POC.
yes, witchcraft discussed, references to demons, demon purification ritual with ancient language rites, etc. everyone voting no must think “religion” is just a code word for christianity.
There is no actual incest but a possessed girl tells her brother to get down in the basement so she can suck his dick, thankfully he recoils in disgust.
The end is a triumphant moment, but almost everyone died in horrible ways by that point. The one surviving character endured unfathomable trauma and they’re left all alone in the woods.
