The flashback scenes in this movie show the life of the little girl and her abusive alcoholic mother. The mother is shown smoking around the kid, drinking, screaming curse words at the kid, and slapping her.
The mother's alcoholism is a big theme in the movie. The opening scene shows the living room littered with beer bottles and the 10 year old daughter cleaning them up. At one point, the mother tries to quit drinking, but fails after two days. She is shown drinking liquor she found in the trash, and then being passed out on the bathroom floor next to a vomit-filled toilet. The daughter comes and lays next to her and snuggles her. The mom and her boyfriend later have a fight about alcohol, and the child is hiding their keys to keep them from driving to get more. They are both screaming at her to give up the keys.
The main character gets raped with an object, and it's on-screen. (If you need a heads-up: It's the scene where she gets approached by a man in a car. He asks her if she needed a ride, she asks for the time and then agrees. There's still some time before it actually happens, but that's the guy.)
Selby's and the mother of the family she's living with are in a dinner and the mother says the n-word hard 'r' and Selby repeats it saying "don't say *n-word*"
Not sure if this counts as hate speech, but: The main character's lover has a pretty homophobic family. Her parents kicked her out when they found out, and the family she's staying with now keeps talking about how she "chose the gay lifestyle" but if she wanted a roof over her head, she should be with a man.
The main character is a sex worker and aspects of her job are shown, graphically spoken about, and implied. There is a sexual assault scene that is fairly graphic. There is a consensual sex scene between the main character and her girlfriend, not too graphic but a breast is shown. There is making out.
I mean, the movie's about a serial killer who killed a bunch of men by shooting them, so ... yes. But you only actually see her shoot three of the guys, not all of them. And with the last one, there's a cut right when she fires the first shot (I think?).
