This movie is a 'found-footage' film about the Benson family who move in to the infamous house where the DeFeo family were murdered in the 1970s over 30 years earlier. Things start happening to anyone who visits this house, and whoever lives there. This is the footage retrieved from the camera.
There are only two dogs in the movie, and neither of them die as far as I'm aware. It's possible these answers are mixing it up with another movie with the Amityville name.
No actual violence but many uncomfortable scenes (Especially around the father and the teen daughter) that may still trigger people with this trauma. He uses his height and superior strength against her multiple times and threatens her with military school once for leaving a door open and sneaking a boy into the house.
I don't know if it was the intent, but the father trying to calm down his wife after the man falls down the stairs came off very gaslighty to me, in the constant 'calm down' 'you're letting this get to your head' type comments he was making
I'll say yes but it's unclear if the child is possessed or simply following the ghost's instructions of her own free will. Also the teen sister has a very strange look at one point leaning around the fridge, to the point I did believe her possessed.
It's not explicit but there are still some very uncomfortable moments between the father and the daughter and how he treats her for.... being a teenager I suppose? He's very aggressive with a lot of the family as well.
