In a small town in Maine, seven children known as The Losers Club come face to face with life problems, bullies and a monster that takes the shape of a clown called Pennywise.
This movie contains 87 potentially triggering events.
it's implied that Beverly's father abuses her, but it never really goes that far from implying it until the middle, where he attempts to sexually assault her.
There is heavily implied abuse between Beverly and her father, including a scene of attempted sexual assault (?). An antagonist's father also shoots the ground near his son as a punishment for stealing his gun. It also appears that there are some unhealthy relationships with parents.
Yes, Eddie takes prescription drugs, including an inhaler. You see him use his inhaler but I'm not sure if he ever actually takes pills onscreen, although he definitely tries to (he drops them). They are a prominent part of his character arc. However, they are *spoiler* all revealed to be placebos.
Several sheep die, once at the very beginning of the film and again towards the middle. If you're squeamish about this, look away when you see sheep and you'll be fine. A cat is nearly shot by Henry Bowers for target practice later on, but he is caught by his dad, who makes him stop before he actually does it.
Not so much mentioned, but implied Beverly is raped by her father. I can’t remember if this is the first or second movie, but it definitely is mentioned a lot more in the book.
one of the kids is very heavily implied to be frequently sexually abused by her father, but you never see it on screen. one time it gets close but he's stopped and receives violent repercussions.
One of the main characters has the letter H carved into his stomach. Some people are saying it isn't bad but there's blood and it's beyond just a scratch and the kid is very (understandably) distressed while it's happening.
There is a short scene where Mike sees burned hands and flames from behind the door of the butcher's shop. He later describes his past experience of his house being burned down with his parents inside.
Georgie loses his arm and for most people this part would be very traumatic but I personally found it slightly unrealistic and not that scary. You see his arm get bitten by IT and you see him trying to get away with one arm but because of the rain the blood is watered down and they don’t actually show the wound directly
A main character breaks his arm in a fall, and then his very broken arm is seen several times. Another main character also attempts to put the bone back in place with no medical knowledge.
Not really. Beverly Marsh floats and her eyes turn white but shes not having a seizure. And Pennywise in his transformation from Georgie to himself shakes weirdly but I dont think thats a seizure.
in one scene a kid is held down by 2 bullies while a 3rd starts cutting letters into his stomach with a knife. he is stopped before he finishes what he was trying to do, but it is still pretty hard to watch.
Many of the jumpscares are based around gore in general, i think it's pretty hard to avoid it as it is quite sudden and can happen out of nowhere (like the kissing bridge scene / georgie scene)
Well, yeah. It's IT: the whole story about a child-eating monster. However, unlike the previous adaption, the first child killed is portrayed as graphically as in the book. He has his arm torn off and is then dragged into the sewer by his ankles, screaming and crying.
Bev is kidnapped by Pennywise. Also many background characters get abducted/killed by Pennywise and there are several shots of missing posters for them.
Major spoilers ahead, however these spoilers indicate to whoever's reading this as to when to look away during the movie, either due to fear or just not wanting to see vomit: there are four scenes in the movie in which there is sludge or vomit involved. One, when Bill encounters Georgie in the basement, two, when Eddie encounters the leper, three, when Richie and Bill are searching for Eds in the upstairs bedroom in Niebolt Mansion, and four, when the losers' club are fighting Pennywise in the sewer.
A minor plot beat is that Beverly has gotten her first period. Due to the abuse by her father, she is very stressed about him finding out (which he does). At another point she is overwhelmed by the overabundance of choices of sanitary products in a store. Pennywise causes her entire bathroom to be flooded with blood in a scene that could be interpreted as an allegory for her fear of menstruation. All the boys in the group make menstruation feel safer and more normal for her, however; they steal sanitary products for her, and they also all team up to calmly help her clean up the aftermath of the aforementioned bathroom scene.
No self harm but there is a scene at the very end where the group makes a blood pact, this scene involves the members making cuts on their hands with a knife.
Nobody commits suicide in the movie, but since IT (2017) is based on the novel of the same name, IT: Chapter Two (2019) will likely feature a scene where Stan kills himself.
There is no actual shakey cam, but there is a scene where the camera is focused on the monsters head and the rest of the screen shakes, which has the same effect
Not explicitly, but Pennywise's design features crossed eyes so that no matter where he's facing onscreen, one eye will always be staring at the viewer. It's most obvious in the early scene where he speaks to Georgie.
there is no sexual content, however it is made clear that a main character (beverly) is sexually abused by her father. in the book, there is but not in the movies.
There is a lot of insensitivity to the main character's sadness after his younger brother is killed by Pennywise. The boy of size (I forgot his name) cries while he is getting tortured by Henry Bowers and he's ridiculed for this.
While it is revealed that Eddie isn't actually ill, he believes he is and regularly takes medication. He also has frequent asthma attacks and uses his inhaler a lot.
There is a scene or two where a general explosion is mentioned. It's not major but there is a newspaper that describes it, and it says many children were killed.
