A contemplative odyssey across our planet, looking at the simple and extraordinary ways that dogs influence our daily lives.
Former child soldiers in Uganda. The local pub in a Scottish town. A dog walker on the streets of Istanbul. A kaleidoscope of unconventional portraits from fascinating locations. People need dogs, and perhaps they need us, but what do humans do to deserve the unconditional love they provide?
This movie contains 2 potentially triggering events.
This started as a heartwarming documentary about the positive affects of dogs on our lives and the symbiotic relationship humans share with them. But the second to last segment was horrific. The section starts like the others but then takes a sick twist and you see a dog helplessly penned up in a wire cage so tight it can barely move as it helplessly awaits its imminent slaughter while the man they profiled as being a dog lover sharpens his knives while preparing to slaughter the dog for meat. This was a heart wrenching display of abuse and not at all appropriate for this film. To take it a step further and show how it was served up as a meal - with spices and all - had no place in this film. What’s next, a documentary about Mother Teresa with a little snippet of Jeffrey Dahmer thrown in toward the end. Because that’s what I thought of that guy, a sociopath who keeps a pet dog while slaughtering homeless dogs for food and money.
