The adults running the conversion camp attempt to manipulate the teens into doubting their reality and believing that their sexual orientation is wrong. Some of the young people are deeply affected and hurt by this, while others know that it's ridiculous and remain quietly resistant. Cameron, the main character, has moments of doubt but ultimately remains strong and rejects the brainwashing.

The movie takes place at a Christian gay conversion therapy camp, and obviously the nature of this is inherently emotionally abusive for the young people attending the camp. The adults do attempt to manipulate the teens into believing that same-sex attraction is deviant and wrong, and that they must repress their desires. Some of the kids have breakdowns and one boy seriously injures himself (described under self-harm). Overall, however, the emotional abuse in this movie is not *that* intense compared to what really happens at some of the worst conversion camps out there. There is almost no physical abuse depicted, just one scene where a boy is having a screaming breakdown and an adult forcibly holds him down to stop him.

No but there is some language of “taken advantage of” however this is suggesting a character was seduced into being gay not coerced into having sex— it is however f’ed up

It is not shown or heard onscreen (only blood on the floor from the aftermath), but a character cuts off his own genitals.

Most of the film is set at a Christian gay conversion therapy camp for teenagers. While not a mental institution, there are some scenes which may have mental institution vibes (lots of talk therapy, a power imbalance between students and staff, etc).

[TRIGGER WARNING] We are told that a boy self-harmed by cutting his genitals. The self-harm is not shown onscreen, but we do see a lot of blood on a bathroom floor. The character is taken to hospital and we're told he will be OK.

There is a Native American character who is Two-Spirit and he is forced to deny and repress his identity at the conversion camp. (He does use male pronouns, so he isn't misgendered in that sense.)
