From what I recall of this series MANY animals are killed, always on screen and gruesomely. As a cat person the most upsetting was a kitten being drowned in a well, but there are also graphic mouse deaths, and the chicken deaths are particularly gory (if I recall correctly, an animal must be sacrificed in a very gruesome manner to gain access into a certain room, and it always just happens to be a chicken). The act of people killing the animals, the blood, and their bodies are shown quite often and you can hear their screeches pretty much every time. This also happens once every 1-2 episodes so it’s pretty common throughout the show.
I watched this years ago, but there's a lot of pretty graphic scenes in the series, if I recall. I know the show made me anxious for many reasons, this being one.
