A tough, brilliant senior resident guides an idealistic young doctor through his first day, pulling back the curtain on what really happens, both good and bad, in modern-day medicine.
This tv show contains 48 potentially triggering events.
Not in the traditional way. A child gets a spinal injury that causes internal decapitation. His neck/spine looks ok from the outside but inside there's a disconnect that can only be fixed with a very risky surgery (spoiler- the surgery is successful).
There is a leg amputation in the first season. It’s not graphic but we see the leg in a jar in front of the patient.
Plus, before the leg amputation, one of the doctors touches the toe, and the dead toe fell.
In the season 6 premiere a woman comes into the ER for a burn on her arm and ends up having a seizure in her hospital bed. It only happens once, but it was startling for me since it was so unexpected.
I don't know where to put this (i guess gore?) but at one point that do surgery on a man and stop the surgery but don't close. The man's whole chest and torso are open with clear wrapping over them and you can see his heart beat and whatnot as he lays in bed. It's creepy. I'm used to seeing surgery on the show, but seeing a mans insides like that in a non-surgical hospital room just feels unnatural and my unconscious recoils.
The episode begins with a man quietly breaking into a house and sneaking into a child's bedroom. The whole scene is scary, then Gigi wakes up from her very realistic nightmare.
Kind of, sort of? Two men who are out (and together) are asked to hide that they're gay while a couple of people are around. They refuse, with one of them stating how difficult was to come out of the closet and that he won't hide who he is again (not a direct quote, but that was more or less what he said).
A man with MS is overwhelmed by medical debt and feels like a burden to his wife. Conrad stops the man before he can overdose on pills. While Conrad is talking to the EMTs that he had come for the man, the man shoots himself. Nic's dad is there and manages to grab the man's arm so that the shot goes askew a bit and isn't immediately fatal. The man lives. Nic's dad seems to relate (way too much) to how the man feels and the episode ends with Nic's dad holding a gun and staring at it.
During the tornado (for the few mins when it's hitting the hospital) the camera is moving around quickly, so it is very fast and chaotic as it moves around to show what's happening. I believe that it is shaky but I can't give you details because I got visually overwhelmed and closed my eyes for most of that part.
A baby cries outside the hospital and Mina and Nic think something sounds wrong. They ask her mom what's wrong. The baby is wheezing and is rushed inside, first to the ER and then to the pediatric ICU.
I think that maybe the baby was not breathing when first born and the umbilical cord had been wrapped around the baby's neck, but the baby was breathing fine by the end of the episode.
In the season 6 premiere a woman is pregnant with twins. As the episode goes on the unborn twins and the mother become increasingly at risk of death. It's scary but they're all ok in the end.
There is an emergency C-section. There's also a maternity ward, a Dr preparing for a scheduled C-section, etc but we are there before during and after the emergency C-section.
There is a man who sings in drag but it is very definitely not a joke. Everyone at the hospital is respectful about the gay man who likes to sing and dress like Dolly Parton.
Kind of, but in a different way. It's a Black woman. And the show makes a point about the relationship between her race and her death. So it's not just casual. It's heart-breaking.
Nic is talking to Conrad's former commanding officer when the man starts showing symptoms of a stroke. The man is already a patient in the hospital, so he gets help quickly.
As soon as the episode ends it switches to showing you a woman who inspired a part of this episode, showing videos of her and showing her husband giving a speech (in real life).
Mina is hit by a golf cart, if that counts. We don't see it happens but we see her regain consciousness afterwards and the man who was driving the golf cart is trapped underneath.
