Gravekeeper's lore (Christian) , Disciple's lore. Hermit's lore (moreso a cat cult with Hermit and some of Disciple) I know there's more but these are all I recall
1. Wick the dog was abandoned unwillingly from his prior owner due to death and then after the fate of postman is left abandoned again, both cases it is not intentional and the dog is always interpreted to be safe after.
2.Luchino's reptiles are left in his home/office when he leaves for the manor. He intents to come home as he cares for them.
3. Seer's bird Brooke is always with him but when Seer's fate is unknown we can't say for sure if Brooke the owl escaped and is alone or died with Seer.
Joker/WeepingClown takes apart Violette's prosthetics leaving her to die. People watched him do It in fear but did not stop him. This is found in letters and is not animated or shown.
Emil’s physician did not gaslight him. Please read their deductions. Their relationship is tragic and the ethics behind it are questionable, but Ada does not abuse, gaslight or manipulate him at all.
The Barmaid is a character who is a confirmed alcoholic, and her special skill revolves around making and consuming different drinks to grant her different abilities.
In the backstory and in some events animals are killed offscreen/in letters. Wilding's Boar is killed by Mercenary, Hunters killed Gamekeeper's pet Deer, Postman's dog has survived 2 games and is still abandoned.
Lore wise animals are harmed or distressed but the company doesn't have any animal harm issues.
Several instances where animal abuse is at least implied. The dog-fighting ring in Emil’s backstory comes to mind; dog-fighting rings are not exactly praised for their stellar treatment of animals.
Wick is sad his original owner dies and eventually his new owner dies. Wilding's boar and him are killed and the boar Is heartbroken. It both of these events are offscreen and are found in letters earned in game.
A major plot point involves all characters being drugged without their consent with hallucinogenic substances. Emma Woods/Gardener and Emil/Patient are also drugged without their consent in an asylum.
In main gameplay, the hunter traps a captured survivor in a chair. This only appears as a safety bar, however, it was barbed wire in earlier game versions. A voice line referencing this hasn't been changed.
Axe Boy has been decapitated and so has Bloody Queen, but it is not shown ingame. Though, Axe Boy has a bag where his head is, and Bloody Queen has her head stitched back on and readjusts it when stunned.
Many of the characters can possibly considered to have body horror aspects. Luchino/Evil Reptilian was turned into a lizard-humanoid hybrid against his will by Eldritch forces. Grace/Naiad is physically decayed due to being undead. Phillipe/Wax Artist is covered in molten wax. Percy/Undead is a frankenstein-like monster. Antonio moves like a limp puppet on account of being possessed and has frankenstein-like stitches. Many cosmetics have body horror elements, such as being infested by parasitic plants/roots or otherwise mutated.
Amputation is never shown on screen, but many characters are amputees and lost limbs in traumatic events such as Joker losing a leg when he committed an arson and Mad Eyes missing an arm. Some characters who are amputees experience discrimination and abuse because of it such as Violetta/Soul Weaver.
In the first versions of the game when the survivors were caught they'd get hanged, however this was changed to the rocket chairs for a more child-friendly gameplay.
Lots of survivors gasp and pant when running. This is especially noticeable with Norton (Prospector) who coughs and gasps more than the others when running, this isn't asphyxiation but they may sound like they struggle to breathe
When a survivor is caught by the hunter, they are tied to a chair with rockets that blast off and send them back to the mansion after a certain amount of time if they are not rescued. They are shown visibly frightened and struggling to escape, although the hunter doesn’t do anything to them beyond this point, and they are not in pain.
All of the survivor characters appear to have buttons for eyes, similar to some of the characters in Coraline. This is likely just a stylistic choice, and no actual eye mutilation took place.
The Journalist has a toy resembling her brother figure that's shown to be tattered on occasion. This doll isn't destroyed on screen and is shown to be well kept from the Journalist's point of view
One of the gardener’s skins is called “Ghost Girl” and appears to be her but blue and transparent, resembling a ghost. This is the only time a ghost appears in the game, and it’s just an outfit- the character herself is not actually dead or a ghost.
Joker jumps at the screen in one of the beginning cutscenes and a couple hunters have abilities where they can suddenly appear without too much of a warning.
There was a rumour of Prospector eating his dead miners/coworkers but the company confirmed that Prospector did NOT eat anyone and it is purely just fanfiction.
The Explorer/Kurt Frank is stated to have schizophrenia in his birthday letter, and if the wrong choice is chosen in The Magician/Servais Le Roy's deduction diaries, Kurt will stab him with a knife.
A few characters such as Emma Woods receive a diagnosis of D.I.D. for shock value without actually being portrayed respectfully: she is shown as “unhinged” and burns someone to death.
Aesop/Embalmer is canonically autistic, and is turned away from his school as a child as he was deemed “unfit to study there” due to him being autistic. This is not a main story event and will only be read should you complete Aesop’s deduction target.
Leo Beck takes his own life by burning himself to death. White Guard takes his own life by hanging himself. Embalmer’s mother is manipulated into assisted suicide. Galatea is implied to take her own life by jumping from a height.
When the hunter is near, the game will start showing the heartbeat of the survivor that you are playing as, and it gets faster and louder as the hunter approaches. This is not confirmed to be a panic attack, and none are actually mentioned, but it could still be associated with one to some people.
Not necessarily, but Andrew/Gravekeeper’s ability is to tunnel underground. He himself suffers from claustrophobia (it is listed as an external trait) and will move faster while underground because of it.
The Mercenary, Naib Subedar has a trait called shell-shocked which slows his decoding. It is strongly suggested to be PTSD from war. Other than the trait name and description, nothing else
Not inherently, but in certain positions during the game, the camera can glitch-ily shake while decoding. This is particularly common when decoding a cipher against the wall from the front with the camera pointed at the survivor. The camera can also shake a bit when a hunter is shot with a flare gun.
Thief listens in on Gardener & Doctor's conversations. Multiple characters get "files" on their behaviors during the manor game they're in as well, so it's implied that they're all being watched. (The first one has an actual cutscene, unlike the latter thing which is only really shown in letters.)
Lucky Guy has a skin which portrays him wearing a maid dress and is played for comedic effect with him being very flustered, although he is a cis male so the joke isn’t used in a transphobic way like other media.
Due to the game being of Chinese origination (and Chinese law denoting LGBT+ people and content as illegal), no character is confirmed LGBT+. The closest are Wu Chang (Xie Bi'an and Fan Wujiu), who are described as "sworn brothers" (a historical term used to denote an unbreakable bond between men beyond friendship, often used in modern times to write gay content without explicitly stating it as gay) in their deductions, but it is unsure if this implication was intended or not.
Yes. This game has extremely ableist portrayals of mentally ill and neurodivergent people. A character is lobotomized without his consent by a psychologist, treated like an animal by her, and this is portrayed as positive and highly romantic. Other mentally ill and disabled characters are shown as being scary and violent due to their mental illnesses. It is also extremely racist. Many cosmetics are explicitly blackface or brownface, darkening the skin of white characters and dressing them in caricatures of cultural clothing. The only two black characters are an angry black man trope and a voodoo sorceress stereotype respectively. The sparse cast of POC is repeatedly whitewashed. Women are frequently victims of domestic violence for shock value and usually either damsels who lack agency or evil and jealous monsters.
Margaretha Zelle/Dancer is repeatedly objectified by other characters and by her cosmetics despite being a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual harassment.
There is a mention of Patient having dementia according to one dialogue from the ten days of memory event. It's possible this could be a wrong translation of amnesia however
One minor character does die during surgery, but the game doesn't outright say that abortions are bad. Abortions are never mentioned from then on but it could be changed in the future due to the game actively updating
No, but both the survivors and hunter are prone to getting hurt from getting hit by a train in one map if they aren’t careful enough (you can see and hear the train coming, so you have time to move out of the way first.)
The Coordinator’s special ability is having a gun that she can shoot the hunter with. Shooting the hunter will cause them to be stunned for a short moment, but they are fine afterwards.
