Everyone has secrets and Olivia Pope has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the elite by keeping those secrets under wraps. Not sure if this is the right category but the main character is in an emotionally abusive, on-again-off again relationship with the president.
He uses her for sex and then tells her they are done. On two occasions (so far) tries to force himself on her. He abuses his power to have her watched.

S3 E7: Mellie is sexually assaulted by her father-in-law. There is no warning by the show but they show the rape. It is incredibly disturbing and can be triggering.
episode 8 of season 3 has one of the most disturbing scenes I've ever seen on network TV. A character self injures by chewing through her own wrist. It is really graphic and bloody. I had to turn it off.
