The first remake of the paranoid infiltration classic moves the setting for the invasion, from a small town to the city of San Francisco and starts as Matthew Bennell notices that several of his friends are complaining that their close relatives are in some way different. When questioned later they themselves seem changed, as they deny everything or make lame excuses. As the invaders increase in number they become more open and Bennell, who has by now witnessed an attempted "replacement", realises that he and his friends must escape or suffer the same fate. But who can he trust to help him and who has already been snatched?
This movie contains 26 potentially triggering events.
The psychiatrist talks Elizabeth out of her fears of the body-snatchers. Earlier,Elizabeth also talks about the invasion in a way that frames it as a conspiracy and it feels like the reaction to being gaslighted.
I’m going to mark no because it has a PG rating but I will say, some parts are pretty gross. The complicated thing is the “gorey” parts involve non-human plant hybrid creatures. And since the movie is older, there’s definitely limitations to the special effects. Hopefully this help some folks decide if you they can handle it.
No actual cheating but there’s definitely feelings between two of the main characters from the start, one of whom is in a serious relationship with someone else in the beginning of the film. Their partner has died before they act on it, though.
No supernatural possession. However, there are people who are not themselves and seem like they’re possessed. Hard to say more without giving away the plot.
I’m surprised people have selected no. I’m not usually bothered by sounds, but within the first few minutes I noticed all sounds are very amplified. For example: the squeaking of the swing on the swing set, tapping of the tv, water rushing over rocks, etc.
