Avatar Korra, a headstrong, rebellious, feisty young woman who continually challenges and breaks with tradition, is on her quest to become a fully realized Avatar. In this story, the Avatar struggles to find balance within herself.
This tv show contains 76 potentially triggering events.
The father of the antagonist in season 1 was abusive toward his children, training them to take revenge on others in his place, forcing them to bloodbend.
There are a few parent characters who are clearly abusive to their children, such as in season 1 (without too much spoilery details) a man forces his kids to learn bloodbending in a flashback, being very harsh on one of them for not being very good and yelling when he doesn’t want to bloodbend animals.
Pretty much all of the seasons include heavy gaslighting. Korra's character arc involves a lot of struggles with choosing sides and most of the villains in the show are clever manipulators.
In the episode "skeletons in the closet" S1E11, in a flashback, Noatok and Tarlok bloodbend animals in a way that looks and I'd described as being very painful.
Dragons were almost completely extinct in the original series, but judging by Zuko having a dragon it seems like the dragon population is rising again!
Pretty much 99.9% of the time someone is captured they are restrained in some way. Sometimes the police will wrap metal cords around the person, or it can be as severe as tightly imprisoning Korra in a straightjacket type thing where she can’t bend
Bolin kisses Ginger (on a movie set during filming, the kiss is not in the movie script) after she has told him she's not interested. It's not traumatizing for her but it's clear she doesn't appreciate it. I am usually triggered by SA scenes and this did not trigger me, but still putting it here just in case.
Sort of? Eska is romantically into Bolin and basically forces him into an unofficial relationship. Eska's obsession and "crazy girlfriend" act are often used as visual gags. Though not sexual in nature, it's clearly an abusive relationship.
A minor character is killed by having the air bent out of their lungs in season 3. The scene is drawn out and horrific and keeps getting flashed back to. Korra is almost killed this way too and has PTSD flashbacks to that moment in season 4.
A father dies, but he was an antagonist and his daughters were distraught, but content with his death. Another father dies after a short redemption arc where his daughter reconnects with him after his crimes. He sacrifices himself and his daughter is very distraught. Also a few off-screen deaths that all happened before the events of the show.
The past Avatars can interact with Korra, but they're more like friendly spirits rather than ghosts. And in Book 4, Korra hallucinates and sees herself (what she looked like at the climax of Book 3) in the Avatar state.
Not in a traditional sense, but there are moments when another exerts their will onto another. Similar to what happens in a episode of Avatar the Last Airbender.
S1 episode 5- Bolin vomits offscreen at around 18:00 S3 episode 2-A baby pukes on Kya’s chest onscreen while she’s holding him up. S4 episode 4- Poki pukes out berry juice onscreen at 11:53 minutes in and Meelo pukes in a bush immediately after.
The character Meelo is often seen and heard farting. As he grows older throughout the seasons, this lessens but it's a recurring gag in season 1 specifically.
Two major protagonists (Lin Beifong and Mako) are members of the police and consistently portrayed as heroic. The metalbending police force is consistently portrayed in a positive light. As police chief, Toph Beifong covers up her daughter Suyin's involvement in gangs. Despite the fact that Suyin inflicts a permanent scar on Lin for trying to stop a robbery, Lin is victim blamed in the narrative by "not getting over it" (worth noting that neither Toph nor Suyin even offer an apology for this act of blatant corruption)
Book Four deals with a character's PTSD and overcoming a physically and emotionally traumatic event. The character painfully flashes back to that event on multiple occasions.
S2 E1 8:25 to 8:43. Bolin refers to Eska and Desna as ladies because both have long hair and robes, although Desna is male. The “joke” of his appearance being an extension of his weirdness was a lot less distasteful in 2013 than it is today :/
Zaheer condemns Aiwei, an LGBTQ person, to the Fog of Lost Souls. Since souls can spend eternity there and a physical body dies if a spirit is separated for too long, he is as good as dead. However, Aiwei's LGBTQ status was confirmed by the creators offscreen but not actually mentioned in the show. Also, Unavaatu destroys all past Avatar lives, which includes Kyoshi, a bisexual woman. It's worth noting that neither of these characters were targeted for their sexuality, and this show is famous for ending with a happy, and very much alive, canon queer ship.
Most of the time when male characters cry, their friends comfort them, like after experiencing a “break up” from Korra in season one Bolin cries a lot, and Mako tries to help him feel better, but Bolin is mad at him so Mako ends up having to carry Bolin back to their home.
There is a battle at the end of book 1 that involves planes, and several of them are shot out of the sky. A character becomes a flying ace by shooting down multiple planes.
