An exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean of a daring research team spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival.
This movie contains 30 potentially triggering events.
Debatable. Main child character lost her mother in an accident between the two films. So, she technically wasn’t abandoned, however one could argue that the mother continued to go on dangerous missions despite knowing the risks.
No one is held underwater but there is underwater scenes: the only time people are pulled underwater is at Fun Island when the people on the boat get pulled under by the Kraken
Someone's head implodes after their deep sea helmet is punctured, due to the change in pressure. There is no gore or excessive body horror, but there are a few brief frames where we see where their head is supposed to be and it is gone.
Quite a few people are graphically killed by several sharks, dinosaur things, and a giant squid. Also someone’s head is crushed by an underwater implosion.
After running from the megs in the trench, one of the team members helmet gets pierced from the water dinosaurs and her head implodes when the helment breaks. Only the implosion of the helmet is seen- there is no gore or body horror
The main characters runs out of air and gets unconscious for a short while. On his way to save other, they are also unconscious on the floor as the water flows away.
Meiying's mother is said to have passed prior to the movie's events, and her grandfather died in the previous film. Both are mentioned fairly briefly and they don't go into detail on what happened with either of them.
Lots of jumpscares. Most of them are obvious when they are about to happen because you can tell that the movie gets quiet for a few seconds in an intense or suspenseful scene. The worst jumpscare in my opinion is a deep sea eel jumping and latching onto a character's helmet when the team is walking along the trench floor.
Not that I support either but I don’t appreciate people calling dangerous behavior/s*cide attempts “really, really dumb” as someone who has attempted the latter. :/ But yeah a guy nearly gets himself killed a few times while trying to communicate with The Meg.
There is a young gay man who dies in the first third of the movie. The characters are walking in special deep sea suits on the ocean floor, and the gay character is the last person in the walking line. He is swept up by a sea creature with some screaming. We see that the helmet to his suit has popped off and floats towards the rest of the characters as they mourn and have to continue walking without him.
