The rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged 'newsies,' who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. When publishing titans raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike and take a stand for what's right.

He’s played by an adult, but a boy about 14-15 is beaten with his own crutch and dragged off stage. The next time we see him, he’s bloody and bruised. It’s also heavily implied Snyder hurts the children in the Refuge and deprives them of food (etc “So far they ain’t brung us no food.”)

Not in this version, since it’s been Disney-fied, but in other versions there is a scene in which a Jewish character is buying newspapers to sell; in particular, the 1992 movie as well as the original script titled “Hard Promises” in which an antisemitic slur is used in that version of the scene.
With this background knowledge, the newspaper seller’s “mistake” of giving the character 19 papers rather than 20 could be read as an act of antisemitism. But my verdict is no.
