The story of World War II told through the intertwining fates of ordinary people from all sides of this global conflict as they grapple with the effect of the war on their everyday lives.
One character joins the Polish Resistance where she seduces Nazis and so that she can kill them. On a few occasions the men are resistant to her saying no, but usually she or her comrade is able to intervene.
The series addresses the Nazi eugenics program that murdered thousands of people with disabilities. Phrases like "crippled" and "feeble-minded" are used. Shell-shocked soldiers are referred to as "mad" and "looney" in episode 5.
Marga has been chosen by the German govt to breed in the Lebensborn program. She has no understanding of sex. Her first sexual encounter is not shown, but the before and after are shown, and it is upsetting.
S2E3, 30:16-31:25: Two men intentionally ingest vials of liquid that will make them sick so they can escape from the prison infirmary. They both get ill on screen with lots of visuals and sounds. Mute and look away until the next scene.
In episode 6 a character poisons herself and her child and they both die. You don't see it happen but you see their bodies (the child's body is covered by a blanket) and the bottles in the aftermath. A character also died by suicide before the events of the series and it is discussed.
