The villains are both shown and implied as abusive in various ways. Maleficent puts undue pressure on her daughter, Mal, and tries to get her to be “more evil”. Jafar engages in what laws of some states call “corruption of a minor” by encouraging his son, Jay, to steal. Evil Queen pressures her daughter, Evie, to marry royalty, tells her not to laugh lest she get wrinkles, and of course asks Evie who’s “the fairest of them all” and expects her to answer “you”. Cruella Deville is probably the most extreme example, because she convinced her son, Carlos, that dogs will eat him, yells at him constantly, makes him do things like brush her fur coats and do her hair (not nice about it), and when Carlos befriends a dog, says the dog is “the perfect size for earmuffs” (though this last example leads to Carlos standing up to her). This is, as you can imagine, all shown as wrong and as good reasons for the kids to want to be better than their parents.
