Black South African widows share their experiences of widowhood brought together by a common mourning cloth, known as Inzilo, when widowed. They share similar experiences that vary from dispossession, discrimination, stigmatization, to victimization and emotional abuse by their families and society at large. Through the voices of widows and gender activists, the secrecy, pains and historical background of Inzilo is revealed.
