Tinja has always been taught to be the good girl, always to be perfect. While trying to please her demanding Mother, Tinja hatches a bird-like creature out of an egg to carry out all her hidden and worst impulses. She names the horrifying monster Alli. Alli only eats Tinja’s vomit, and after each feeding “she” gradually transforms into Tinja’s doppelganger. When Tinja is driven to abandon Alli, everyone is in danger.
This movie contains 34 potentially triggering events.
Narrative notes [first time stamp]: Tinja is disturbed from sleeping by the new neighbors’ dog barking. The “bird” creature senses this disturbance and rushes to “quiet” the dog. The creature can be heard squawking and the dog whimpering. The bird nuzzles Tinja awake and turns her to face the dog’s bloody carcass on her bed, probably placed there as a gift, the creature wanting to do the right thing & cure Tinja of any disturbances. Tinja is horrified however. She digs a hole in the rose garden and places the dog’s body (wrapped in a towel) in the hole. From the window, her brother—wearing a mask made from a paper plate—has witnessed her burying this evidence.
[second time stamp] Tinja’s little brother, Matias, produces the dog’s carcass in an attempt to expose Tinja out of jealousy. He drops it on the coffee table in front of their parents and accuses Tinja of killing it. Their parents are convinced this was the work of a wild animal and Tinja is terrified by the reappearance of the body. Matias is sent to his room but before storming off he pushes Tinja. The bird creature senses this violence.
As the bird grows into a human-esque creature, it temporarily has very messed up teeth, including jutting out of the cheeks at bizarre angles. We eventually see them morph into a more human shape and setup later.
Tinja has moments where you can def see the emotional abuse of her mom reflecting, but it is never said in explicit detail that she Has ptsd. Just that you can Really see it.
