The family's pet chicken is killed off-screen, and this is mentioned while the family is having a chicken meal together. The family also had a pet cat who died prior to the film's story, but multiple children recount its death (including younger children who saw the cat's ghost).

Most of it is subtle and is easily missed upon first viewing, but much of the subtext and background story points to the mother, Tsukasa, psychologically abusing and physically assaulting her children. There is one scene where she screams at two very young children for playing in a suspicious part of her backyard, and tells them she doesn't care if they disappear.

A father who is abused by his daughter says something along the lines of "no matter what you do I will always love you"
He later seemingly forgives her after she tearfully apologizes

The death does not occur onscreen, but the children draw an image of a cat covered in blood and when asked, explain that it is the ghost of their old family cat. What happened to the cat is not mentioned.

Sort of? It's a documentary so there's a lot of hidden cameras.
