Ends on a bitter note. Rock concocts a giant plan to save Roberta and Garcia, spite over the ruling mafia boss and ultimately instigate a change in the city. He’s plan works but leaves absolutely no change or effect on either the mafia or the city as he hoped, ultimately leaving Rock feeling like the whole thing was pointless. The story was never continued from here due to the original manga going on hiatus for 3 years multiple times and even to this day (May 2023) not having enough content to justify an adaptation that lasts another full season.
No but Dutch does have a confrontation with a Neo-nazi general who says to him “it’s a shame you’re black” and acts very dismissively and looks down upon him because of his skin colour, which Dutch doesn’t take very seriously because the opinion of a Neo-nazi is worthless. Also Revy gives a Taiwanese woman the nickname “chinglish” to make fun of her poor English and thick accent. In the manga version, she just straight up calls her the c slur (racial slur for asians) instead.
Pretty diverse cast but Shenhua is a bit of an egregious stereotype of Chinese people. Thailand is also depicted as a rundown hive of scum and villainy
An antagonist has both his arms cut off and thrown into a swimming pool. He is left there to try and stay afloat without his arms before he is held under the water until he drowns.
It’s mentioned that the Irish getaway driver from the end of season 1 died of a drug overdose offscreen. Roberta is constantly overdosing on Ritalin stimulants which doesn’t kill her but is definitely contributing to her rapidly declining mental health reaching dangerous levels
A yakuza member attempts an assassination on a mafia boss that he knows has a very low chance of actually succeeding and will more than likely end with his death. Sure enough, it does.
Rock smokes weed which gives him a depressive episode. An Irish getaway driver is high on weed that was laced with Cocaine. Roberta takes dangerous amounts of Ritalin Stimulants numerous times
Two child characters have a rather horrific backstory of being trafficked into a CP business that in addition to molestation involves gruesome snuff films
In a flashback, a teenage Revy is raped onscreen by a police officer. Only quickly shown for about 3 seconds but still very disturbing. A woman is kidnapped by a gang and they play a game where every time they get a strike in bowling, they force off a part of her clothing. She is rescued before she is left fully naked. Numerous mentions of women being trafficked into the sex industry and even offscreen child molestation by a mafia gang.
A character's speciality is swordfighting, so when she's on action, she hacks and slashes her oponents. There's also a girl who's quirk Is to use a chainsaw
If you count all the explosions and burnings on town that happen on the show, it's possible some people die burned. Also, there's an assassin that uses a flamethrower
A couple of Roberta’s fingers are shot and they can be seen dangling off her hand. She then intentionally shakes her hand to get the dangling fingers to fall off.
The very first thing that happens in the series is the main protagonist being kidnapped by mercenaries. Numerous other instances of kidnapping throughout.
Episode 1 about 19:50 after a helicopter takes off. Watching will update over time. Episodes 2-12 Safe Episode 13 18:25 after the henchmen talk to the twins.
The police literally say verbatim they don’t care what the criminal gangs do as long as it’s “out of sight, out of mind.” The chief also works directly with the Russian mafia and gives out information to them.
What you need to understand going in is that it belongs to the “girls with guns” genre so that kind of thing is in its nature. Granted the female characters are pretty fleshed out in a way to try to balance it out but not a single episode goes by without some kind of fan service shot
Undeaged characters are seen kissing, as well as being sexual towards adult characters (touching breasts and showing genitals). If you want to skip this, skip season 2 first three episodes (13-15)
Rock doesn’t cry but he is clearly sad, upset or uncomfortable at certain points and Rev most of the time will either make fun of him or tell him some variation of “stop being a p***y”
One of the storylines has themes that are tied to the consequences of anti-abortion laws passed in Romania during Nicolae Ceaușescu‘a rule as dictator, causing a rise in orphaned children who were sold to secret police because the parents couldn’t afford sustaining them, and then the children trafficked by the mafia.
