no literal abandonment, but young kirsten’s parents are very uninvolved in her life as a general pattern before. then they die (probably during her play) and she never hears from them again.
MAJOR SPOILER:

>then Jeevan, who is not her parent but is her adult at the end of the world, does abandon her when she is 9, after an emotional fight.

not really gaslighting: Jeevan (adult) lies to Kirsten (child) to make her feel safe to stay at his brother’s apartment, saying her parents texted they got stuck somewhere and that she should go with him. She seems to know that he is making this up and chooses to trust him anyway.
more like gaslighting: the words used and the way it happens is not shown onscreen, but children between roughly 3 and 11 years old are manipulated and coerced by the Prophet away from their parents to follow him and he teaches them a comic book as literal reality/truth/prophecy, to the degree that he can make them into suicide bombers.

safe! no pet dies in this show.
there is a stray kitty who is left behind when some people change locations, but it was not being fed by humans to begin with so she it’s assumed she will continue feeding herself as she did before. leaving her behind is not a focal point of the episode.

one character has intense dreams/hallucinations after being shot with a poison dart, and is told afterwards that “it makes you see ghosts” but it’s a misused definition, he asks her right after “what did you dream about?”
another character has auditory and visual hallucinations just kind of mentally cracking at the end of the world.
there is no spiritual or dead presence in either scenario, it is all one sided in the character’s mind. and noncreepy

children are manipulated into acting as suicide bombers by an adult who is controlling and gaslighting them. I wouldn’t categorize it the same as suicide bombers who are aware and intentional of their plan to kill themselves. but the children do die (running to hug someone they love)
another character chooses to be killed by a violent character rather than try to live or slowly starve to death.

Frank’s character arc is NOT ableist. He is a deeply complicated character who also can’t professionally write without heroin and hasn’t left his house in almost a year pre-pandemic, he is agoraphobic and avoidant on top of his physical disability. Just because he still doesn’t want to leave his house now that it means walking through the apocalyptic chicago winter scavenging food means the writers are ableist? these commenters are, for not seeing Frank as anything other than his disability. The man did not want to leave his home.
(THE BIGGEST SPOILER YOU COULD POSSIBLY READ, but clears the groundless ableism accusations: Jeevan gets a similar disability a year after the pandemic, and needs a mobility aid exactly like Frank’s while he is a doctor in multiple towns saving peoples lives for the next 20+ years in a world without cars. Nowhere do the writers imply that a person who needs a mobility aid wouldn’t survive after the end of the world, or that disability makes a person have less will to survive. It’s actually just the opposite. Garbage take by the other two commenters, who didn’t think about the show enough.)
The only ableist thing is the bad guy faking a disability. There is representation of multiple types of mobility aid being used genuinely, amputees, mental illnesses in liked & loved “good guy” characters and compassionate responses, etc. If you’re sensitive to topics around disability, there is no reason to skip this series :)

there is a moment where a character who is giving birth is waiting for someone who she was traveling with before, it seemed to be implied that it’s her partner but it turns out to be a boy of about 11 or 12. I wondered if the barely pubescent boy was the father of this adult woman’s baby but it’s not, they were just travel companions.
