There is a short subplot with an NPC’s dog that is not plot relevant, but it does display a dog getting sick and eventually passing away if you tune into all of them.
A main characters father is said to be one, the man behind the protags arrest is also shown drunk in the incident that led to it, and one confidant is found in a bar who regularly gets drunk
There is a side quest involving a lot of cats disappearing from the neighborhood, where it turns out the perpetrator has been hoarding cats out of guilt for letting her kitten walk out into the street, where it was hit and killed.
No spiders to be seen, however a character says "Looks like you all walked right into the spider's parlor" during 1/11 of the third semester. This is just figurative speaking within the context of the scene though.
a main plot point at the start of the game is about a gym teacher sexually assaulting female students. the player can choose to have the protagonist (highschool student) date an adult woman, but this is optional.
The first boss of the game is behind the assault of several high school girls, including a part member and her best friend. A man attempts to assault another party member but is stopped by the protag. A show producer is creepy towards a party member.
Yes, if you have a successful ambush, Joker will jump on top of the guard's shoulder and kinda chops their head off. This is semi-graphic, the guard turns into a Shadow instead of dying, in which you have to fight them after chopping their head off but characters aren't decapacitated by any other means.
Whenever someone awakens to their Persona, it looks like they have a seizure, because they often are seen holding their head and screaming/moaning in pain.
During the opening sequence of the game, there is a part where a mysterious girl comes and saves you from some shadows. As she does this, she throws her sword at one, stabbing it in the chest and killing it.
The main character supposedly “dies” late in the game, but it turns out to be a trap to make the traitor of the team think that he had won. The main character is shown to be alive, but heavily beaten up.
MAJOR SPOILERS:
in the end of shido’s palace, ryuji goes down with the boat and is presumed dead but comes back. also, while this happened before the game, it is shown in a cutscene but kasumi/sumire’s twin sister died after jumping in front of a car to save her sister.
Morgana (who takes the form of a cat-like creature) is not human, and supposedly dies after the final boss is killed and the metaverse disappears. He is shown to have survived near the end, in a cat form, and reunites with his friends.
Several characters have family members deceased prior to the events of the game, and two characters have family members die in the course of the game's story.
Several party members have parents who died before the events of the game, and mention this in the story. One party member has their parent die during the game in a cutscene
Mannequins are displayed in various places while you infiltrate the first palace. It's used in a creepy way, and probably not used for its intentional purpose (it's not used to measure and design clothes).
After the first palace, the Phantom Thieves celebrate by going to a buffet. Ryuji overeats and runs to the bathroom. Nothing is heard or shown, but Morgana briefly references it after. When your class takes a trip to Hawaii, it's mentioned that Mishima drank foreign tap water and is heard in pain in the bathroom saying "my... stomach...", but there's no sound effects and no implication of anything specific. Characters occasionally have spoken lines like "makes me wanna p*" but not often and it's very easy to skip them.
There are a few yells or screams while you hit the Shadows, but not excessively graphic. When your party members have been hit, usually the audio gore is not apparent, or at least it's not as near as bad as the ones for Shadows.
The game pulls no punches with its depiction of corrupt law enforcement, right down to having a detective as a major antagonist and even opening with the main hero being mistreated by sadistic police officers. That being said, one of the major characters expresses a desire to join the police force so that she can turn things around, so you may want to keep that in mind.
The main character had been imprisoned before the game starts, a narrative arc has him being interrogated in a prison cell, and the velvet room (where he gets his personas) takes the form of a prison.
Artifacts or treasures from a Palace ruler gets destroyed during the Metaverse. This is the only way how a Palace ruler can change their heart, antagonist or not. However, these artifacts aren't real (during the Metaverse), they are part of their cognition, or rather, their deep desires. It's basically a metaphor. But the artifact shown in the real world does end up in your possession, you then can sell it but the real treasure is not destroyed.
In an early cutscenes one is used on the protagonist during interrogation.
Later in the same room, after the prosecutor enters the room, more are seen around the room. To avoid seeing those, you can look away between when the prosecutor enters the room, and until they say "bastards".
In the clinic, there is a poster with less detailed, cartoonish representations of syringes.
You can visit one of your confidants in the hospital during a late-confidant hangout, during which you see the character in a hospital bed. In addition, a friend of one of the main characters is hospitalized near the start of the game. This is not shown, however, it is mentioned a few times.
Awakening of Personas is painful. On characters' face appears a mask, which appears to be stuck to their face. Then they have to tear it from their face while screaming and bleeding.
Yes-ish, it honestly depends on how you read the character. It is that Goro Akechi has Issues, but he is never said to have a diagnosis. It is also VERY late into the game when this happens.
Spoilers: Futaba is abused as a child in ways which could be seen as praying on her neurodivergence, in specific there is a flashback where, to cover up the assassination of her mother, two agents corner her and repeatedly shout that it's her fault, not giving her time to think or react.
Several characters offer to kill themselves while confessing their crimes. A girl tries to kill herself near the beginning of the game, and several other characters show signs of suicidal ideation.
In the velvet room on the off chance that the electric chair itemized persona function fails and gives u a different result many very bright lights will flash really fast, its pretty disorienting. also there are almighty and bless attacks that feature flashing lights.
One of the background characters does talk to the audience frequently when they appear. It does not happen often, and it might not be off-putting as a result, but just something to keep in mind if you're not into characters who have broken the fourth wall.
Two Drag Queens mistakenly assume Ryuji is interested in the hobby and bring him along with them. At a later point there's a verbal joke implying he begrudgingly ended up wearing a dress.
Two NPCs who in the original Persona 5 were stereotypes of predatory gay men are rewritten to be overbearing drag performers who coerce Ryuji into participating. See "Are there "Man in a dress" jokes?"
Only partial nudity is shown but it's implied when you go in the bathhouse.
During the second palace Ann is encouraged to be a nude model for Yusuke's painting to open up a door in real life, but she comedically avoids actually taking her clothes off.
There are lots of references to sexual content as well as implicit sexual content but there's no explicit or graphic sex scenes, and the non-cons aren't explicit or graphic either.
A side character is shown to have been hit by a car, killing them. The actual collision is not seen, but the character jumping in front of the car and the aftermath is.
To my knowledge it usually only happens in The Metaverse, as characters have normal melee and ranged attacks (which are usually guns). But there is an attempted assassination quite late in the game where the main character gets shot in the head. Whether you live or die depends on the choices you make during the interrogation scene before that, but regardless of your decision the cutscene shows the protag getting shot in the head. It should also be noted that the animation is not very graphic.
