The film that brings back horror icon Freddy Krueger as a darker and more sinister character than ever before. While Freddy is on the prowl a group of teenagers being stalked soon learn they all have a common factor making them targets for this twisted killer.
This movie contains 62 potentially triggering events.
The protagonists and multiple other teenagers are being hunted down by Freddy for the entire film, and while this isn’t the usual form of stalking, I believe it still counts as they’re constantly afraid of him showing up and harming them.
Multiple people are constantly told that they are being ridiculous for thinking a dream is real, that they should just relax, or that it’s all in their heads and nothing bad will happen. I do think this is an example of gaslighting, even though it wasn’t intentional and the people doing it didn’t know any better at that point in the story.
Gaslight: “manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity.”
Quentin is seen using “Zoneral” which is essentially Adderall throughout the movie to stay awake. He also steals syringes of medical adrenaline and is seen using it on himself once and then once again to wake up Nancy.
While there is no real addiction, there is a scene in which Quentin has to beg the pharmacist for more adderal to stay awake because the pharmacist assumes Quentin is popping them. Quentin is seen using these pills throughout the movie to avoid sleeping.
There’s many mentions of sexual assault. Spoilers ahead: Freddy Krueger is established as a pedophile who sexually assaulted many (if not all) of the kids who went to Badham Preschool. There are scenes where Parents discuss what happened, and a scene where Quentin and Nancy find proof of his happening. But there is also a scene near the end of the film where Freddy has Nancy restrained and it is very heavily implied that he is about to assault her. This scene goes on for a while before Quentin saves her.
I think this happens more than once throughout the film, but I only remember during a swim meet Quinton ended up almost drowning and struggled to breathe when he finally woke up
Spoilers: In Quentin’s dream-sequence Freddy is shown being trapped in a building and then burned alive by use of a molotov by the parents of the children he assaulted. It shows him on fire before rushing out of the building towards Quentin, where you can see him burning. Quentin and Nancy also attempt to burn his "dead" body at the end of the film.
A mirrored scene of the original Nancy bath scene. Nancy is seen getting into the bath, falling asleep in the bathtub, Freddy’s glove reaches up out of the water in-between her legs, and then she is awoken by Quentin’s phone call
about an hour and 15 minutes in theres a clown mask on the wall behind one of the characters, but its only shown for a few seconds and not focused on whatsoever
A long hospital scene where Quentin brings Nancy in after being attacked by Freddy. Nancy is shown being extremely distressed. Quentin is also driven off in an Ambulance at the end of the film. And while this isn’t in the original cutting, one of the alternate beginnings of the film shows Freddy in the hospital after being burnt alive.
Spoilers ahead: After it’s established that Quentin and Nancy have presumably beaten Freddy once and for all, Nancy goes home with her mother. During their conversation, Freddy appears again and kills Ms. Holbrook, ending the film on a cliff-hanger
While technically no, there is a scene where Quentin falls asleep during a swim team practice and is shown being dragged under and flailing around in the water, after the dream sequence that follows, he is shown being resuscitated outside of the pool
