Bitter and hateful, the Grinch is irritated at the thought of a nearby village having a happy time celebrating Christmas. Disguised as Santa Claus, with his dog made to look like a reindeer, he decides to raid the village to steal all the Christmas things.

Max, the dog, stays alive the whole time. There is a brief moment after Grinch has his revelation moment where Max is on top of the sleigh as it teeters near the edge of Mount Crumpet but through the ✨power of the true meaning of Christmas ✨Grinch saves him.
Yes, before his change for the better, The Grinch is very harsh on Max. It’s cartoony, of course, and is meant to illustrate just how mean Grinch was before he learned that Christmas is about love. Throwing Max in the snow, picking him up by the tail, whipping him when he’s forced to act as a reindeer, forcing him to act as a reindeer is arguably an example. Because of how cartoonish it is, none of it will bother most people besides making you think “geez that’s mean!” There’s no blood, no gore, and while Max yelps and is unhappy and stuff, no long-term harm is done. At the end, of course, the Grinch has a literal and figurative change of heart, and he begins to treat Max with kindness.
There’s a brief scene where Max’s head is compressed cartoonishly. He recovers quickly, of course, because this is a cartoon. It will probably not bother most people, only the very sensitive.
