After building his dream house, architect Newton Davis proposes marriage to his girlfriend, only to be summarily rejected. He seeks solace in a one-night stand with a waitress, never imagining that a woman he slept with once would end up posing as his wife. Gwen's ruse is so effective that by the time Newton learns of his "marriage," the entire town feels like they know him.
Spoilers: Gwen wakes up naked in a chair but you only see her back then she covers up, the most sexual part is a part when Newton and Becky are alone. He’s kneeling on the ground next to her and then begins poking and kissing her, it gets to a making out stage but he quickly ends it before it gets further
The main two actors are the same age, Steve Martin’s original love interest in the beginning is 9 years younger than him in real life (doesn’t say in the movie, but I believe the two were 46 and 37 in real life at the time)
The whole movie is about Gwen lying to everyone about being married to Newton, it’s humorous but essentially everyone is gaslit into thinking everything she’s saying is true
Kind of, main character cries and his dad says something along the lines of “it’s okay to cry but not too much, no one likes a cry baby” but he tries to say it endearingly
