Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.
This movie contains 40 potentially triggering events.
Marlena is restrained by human grip and dragged away in the military headquarters sequence in the department store. Her friends are similarly restrained from going after her.
SPOILERS - the lead characters get buried alive by the debris of the bridge they hide under before the footage cuts out when the bomb hits. The camera gets blocked by debris.
Gore is mostly offscreen as it is pg-13 but there is a scene inside the mall's makeshift hospital where a dead body with it's stomach blown open is seen in full glory
Beth and Rob were not in a committed relationship so she started seeing another man. Rob reacts with jealousy but most other characters tell him he has no right to be angry as she was not dating him.
The bite mark on Marlena's shoulder looks like a pattern of a few holes, we see it up close after they escape the subway tunnel but it remains covered when they leave the area
I don’t know why two people answered yes to this. There is a lot of coughing after first attack and people sort of gagging on the debris floating in the air, but no vomit.
oh yes, you can audibly hear a human being chewed to death inside a gigantic monster's mouth. also, you can hear them being snapped in half by the monster's teeth.
Just as the main characters are leaving the building, they walk past an ambulance where a character says "get us an IV" but we have panned away before anything is shown. Med tent area is also safe.
Somewhat. Not technically a hospital, but there's basically a scene in a medical tent/emergency medical station set up in a department store. There's people on stretchers, a body with their guts spilled out of their abdomen passes the camera briefly.
There are multiple instances of main characters experiencing what looks to be some form of anxiety/panic attacks, including the one holding the camera who's eyes are the ones we see the story through
The movie was shot found-footage style so it looks like you're watching from a first person point of view, a lot of scenes were shot in tight, gloomy, or dark places.
No full nudity, however the movie starts with two characters in bed that are implied to be naked, but everything important is covered by a blanket or underwear. Bare shoulders are shown and the characters joke about filming the woman's chest.
Characters homes are implied, stated, or shown to be destroyed, and one character's destroyed house is later visited. The state of being homeless isn't focused on by the characters.
Multiple instances of blood and gore. At one point, a character is found to be impaled, and the other characters audibly pull them off of being impaled though the camera is pointed away. Another character bleeds out of their eyes before vomiting blood, and their abdomen explodes behind a sheet so you see silhouette and the splatter. Just before that, the characters are in an emergency medical station and a corpse with its guts ruptured is in center frame for a moment.
