prisoners are either voted "guilty" or "innocent" by the audience. Both ways have had disastrous results on the mental health of the characters, and characters voted guilty by the end of MILGRAM will most likely face bad consequences.

Haruka does not forgive his mother but expresses a willingness to do so if she "loves him again." Muu repeatedly blames herself for being bullied (though does not forgive her bullies) and tries to get someone she, herself, had bullied to forgive her (this does not work out for her). Mahiru is an abusive girlfriend who drives her boyfriend to suicide after getting him to forgive her numerous times. Amane is a child raised in a cult who believes that her cult is good and kind. Mikoto says that he'll forgive MILGRAM if he can finally find out the truth behind his murders.

Series is about the inability to apply clear-cut definitions of morality like the police system tries to do to characters. Many of the murderers on trial by Milgram, such as Amane and Haruka, are shown to be criminals but not necessarily bad people.

There's no traditional self-harm, but Amane attacks a separate version of herself in her headspace (?) when the latter steps out of line in the Purge March. Haruka does something similar when he chokes the younger version of himself in his music video. Muu tries to hurt her own mental well-being to get an innocent vote. Shidou tries to get a guilty vote because he doesn't see himself as deserving innocence.

a character with confirmed DID has the "evil/murderous alter" trope.
however, we still don't have the full context to his crimes, and it could've been an act of protecting the system/self-defense.
