Spoilers are limited here. After being conditioned to use an aggressive and tactical mindset as children. The protagonist's team is put into a multimedia control center. Unknown to them the "simulations" may or may not be true solar system-wide strike force combat battles in real-time, lightyears away. All ships in the "real" combat are crewed by human pilots and crews, which is never disclosed. To cover the nature of actual battles were admirals and folks of high rank in the government might want to witness. Graduation of the candidates is the "Simulation" of taking on the enemy's homeworld. Only after the conclusion of the combat is the true nature of the combat revealed.

At about 31 minutes in, a realistic-looking CG mouse is disolved in a goblet of poison. It makes a fistressing noise, followed by its skeleton floating to the top. It’s in the context of a video game, but still may be triggering for some people.

There is a scene where a child's head hits a hard angle and a crack is heard, implying their skull was cracked (spoiler: this happens in the bathroom scene). In the beginning of the movie, there is a physical fight between two children, and one beats the other; it can be assumed that there was some sort of injury. Later in the movie, a child jumps off a bunk and lands badly on their ankle, either twisting or breaking it.

No characters are shown to have misophonia. There are minimal, if any, triggers-- almost no chewing is shown or heard, and there is no tapping or crinkling. There are mechanical whirring noises and some moments where characters speak softly, which may be a trigger. The aliens also make soft clicking noises.

Whether the ending is sad or not is up to the viewer.
The ending has some sad parts, but (especially if you have read the book(s)) you see that the ending is hopeful.

The film has violence, but does not have any visible blood.
all of the violence is done without any visible injury.
In the case of Stiltson, blood is implied, altought never seen in the movie

As part of a game, the children fire fake guns at each other. There is no actual danger to this, but these guns are used multiple times in detail.
