When Billy Peltzer is given a strange but adorable pet named Gizmo for Christmas, he inadvertently breaks the three important rules of caring for a Mogwai, and unleashes a horde of mischievous gremlins on a small town.
This movie contains 41 potentially triggering events.
Not exactly brutalized, but the bartender is being forced to serve the gremlins, light cigarettes, etc in a demeaning fashion, and they are obviously amused by it.
a character is spoken of and they say hes in the tavern extremely often and there is a scene of the gremlins drinking a lot but theres nothing too serious or explicit.
The gremlins tie up Billy’s dog, Barney outside in Christmas lights. The dog is fine and is rescued by Billy. The dog is only cold and is not beaten or bruised.
In the beginning scene in the old man's shop, after hearing the singing of the mogwai when he goes to investigate, there is a tarantula briefly in the side of the shot.
Only gremlins being melted by the sun and one scene where one is whacked into the fireplace. Most of the gremlins are killed in a fire, but it is not shown. Nothing super graphic.
Mrs. Deagle is launched out of her house through a window and falls onto the ground where she dies. It is played off comedically and no blood is shown. Her body lands in snow and you can only see her legs and the chair she was in.
The finale shows the main villain melting in an incredibly graphic moment. There are also some graphic deaths in the kitchen scene. However these are all inflicted on monsters/puppets.
In the beginning when the furballs come from gizmos back it is mild and not bad but later on in the films when gremlins, in their green gremlin form reproduce, I feel the bubbling on their back definitely counts. Very short moments though, and you know when it is about to happen and can easily glance away.
I’m pretty sure the moment is when a bunch of mogwai’s are unwrapping presents? one mogwai v*ms but it’s more like spitting it’s very small and quick. Not at all triggering for me because it’s clearly so unrealistic and extremely small and quick! If you don’t wanna watch look away when a bunch of mogwai’s are sitting in wrapping paper early in the film before they go evil. This is the only moment i noticed, I honestly had no idea it was in it. I’m pretty sure this is the moment people were talking about, i didn’t see it anywhere else!!!
Yes, when the science teacher is given the mogwai, he extracts blood and the needle is shown on screen briefly, no close up but you do see the syringe fill up. There is also later a needle sticking through clothes in a later shot, again no close up.
It's possible that he was only unconscious/incapacitated; his only visible injury is where the gremlin has stabbed him with a syringe, which was probably just local anaesthetic or antibiotics or something (he was planning on injecting the Mogwai). The only confirmed on-screen human death is an elderly white woman who is characterised as a cruel, unpleasant person.
A character frequently complains about "foreigners" and how they make low quality machines full of gremlins. It is framed as the nonsense ramblings of a drunk old man.
No actual sexual content, but there is a mild sexual gag with one of the gremlins flashing the camera. Considering they're naked by default, you don't really see anything bad.
No one drowns. The gremlin doesn't drown either. Spoiler: It's melted by sunlight before it falls face first into the lower part of a tiered fountain, but then launches itself back out and continues melting into a puddle of pulsating goo on the floor.
The majority of the gore is just gremlins, which have goo-like blood and the only scene that I think would make you squeamish is when Stripe melts towards the end.
