I don't know why so many people are voting no, there definitely is but it's not a main theme. A woman hits her boyfriend multiple times while he's driving and they are arguing, the boyfriend insults her and calls her crazy and the argument involves verbal abuse from both sides. The woman then grabs the steering wheel and crashes the car.
i can’t understand how anyone said no. the end scene is the demon making herself kill herself gruesomely on stage. the whole point of the demon’s modus operandi is for spectacle.
No, the main characters mother does not gaslight her. She does not attempt to cause her daughter to question her sense of reality in order to manipulate her. She manipulates her using other tactics. Please please please take the time to learn what gaslighting means.
The smile demon does, however, gaslight the main character in a supernatural way. It manipulates her sense of reality to feed off of her.
As well as the pain medication, a character is seen snorting drugs and does multiple lines. He also offers to sell ketamine and Molly to another character.
Multiple times a woman’s mouth is manipulated without consent, including a scene where someone puts their whole arm into her mouth and down the woman’s throat.
No, but a hand (and some of the arm) is forced down the main character's throat in a hallucination, which could make some people really uncomfortable.
(There's muffled gagging sounds, and the character looks distressed as it's happening, which adds onto the uncomfortable feeling.)
Uh- sort of?
When someone is possessed by the entity, they end up gagging and choking, which I'd assume they aren't able to breathe during this. They don't necessarily die to the oxygen deprivation though.
This movie shows a variety of bone injuries, including the main character’s tibia snapping in a car accident. It shows this injury several times throughout the movie, especially during flashbacks and moments when she’s possessed. It also shows two characters’ jaws snapping a few times. In the beginning of the movie, a character also repeatedly smashes his face in with a gym weight. I would not recommend watching this movie alone if you’re triggered by bone trauma.
The scene with a weight involves facial mutilation that includes the eyes, but you can’t see mutilated eyes under all the blood. The actual eye stabbing happens in a rehab center after someone breaks glass. It’s brief but onscreen. Afterward, the wound is shown and it’s a socket filled with blood. You can’t see the eyeball itself, but the wound is shown multiple times. Finally, the ending sequence involves distorted creature eyes, then the final shot involves an object protruding from an eye
At one point, the protaganist’s mother’s death is shown. It’s graphic and upsetting. However, it is later implied that this is a hallucination. Her mother is shown alive in the final scene.
*explanation with further spoilers*
Everything after when the main character has a person’s hand shoved down her throat and becomes unconscious, up until the final scene, is a hallucination.
The entire film depicts possession from the perspective of the character who is being possessed and blurs the lines of reality. Definitely don't watch if possession is a trigger for you.
around first 20 mins of the movie, *SPOILERS* right after male character bludgeons himself in the face to death, skye is sitting on the floor and she gets up, leans against the wall and then looks to the side and vomits, full visual (according to my bf didn’t look super realistic) and audio wasn’t too bad but i blocked my ears. only about 30 seconds and then its not shown again
The audio is designed to be creepy 🤢 and disgusting, use of low gutteral and high screeches in parts where a jump scare comes or is coming, the end credits after a pop song have non-human voices oscillating all around the cinema.
There is also a scene where she pulls out a drip, when she's in the wellness centre, very graphic for needle sensitive people. Close your eyes when bad stuff starts to happen in the wellness centre
Skye is taken to a "wellness centre" after her public meltdown at the charity event, it is not identified as such but appears to be a fancy mental institution.
Addiction, PTSD, trichotillomania. And of course the main plot is about seeing visions nobody else can see and then being possessed into committing suicide.
Mostly when possessed rather than actually mentally ill. Although a flashback does show a character with substance addiction do something violent while intoxicated
yeah, actually. it was rough for me to watch. the mc loses time several times with events having happened she can’t explain. yes, it’s the demon and not real dissociation or derealization, but the effect is very similar.
Same as first movie. Multiple on screens attempts and completions, though none of the people were actually shown to be suicidal before becoming possessed. There is a character who tries to kill themself to protect other people, but this character was shown not wanting to die a couple days earlier
While Joshua is never openly stated to be gay, I think he's heavily implied to be.
With this in mind, the scene where Darius walks in and hugs Skye's mother while greeting her, Joshua walks up to Darius, also expecting to hug him in a greeting manner. However, Darius gives Joshua a Look and simply walks past him. This might be considered homophobic by some, so just thought I'd mention it.
The word psycho. Also the same gaslighting from the first movie where people think the protagonist is crazy since she sees visions others can’t see. The protagonist tries to cover her scars and uses very self-deprecating language to describe them
Some of the outfits that the main character wears for performances can be considered very revealing, which can be seen as implied sexual objectification.
She does express distaste for one particular outfit, however this is because it reveals one of her scars rather than her body as a whole.
not as much as other movies but definately there 1.one of the charecters says "before we start sucking eachothers d1cks" (they were both women) 2. the main charecter was held down by a crowd if people that touched her everywhere (including touching and rubbing her chest) and one of them shoved their arm down her throat. this could be read as not sexual but it was definately triggering to me because of the implications (i might add she was clearly distressed and fighting against the crowd and the scene where the arm was forced down her throat was quite long) 3. costumes and dancing in a pop music video that could be read as sexual, especially when she sat on a guys back (that one might be a stretch but i dont want to leave anything out) Also theres no kissing
technically you could say that the demon is in a way a terminal illness bc you will die if you get it. I suppose it can be triggering in that way. But other than that, there are no actual terminal illnesses
Extremely grim. Both in terms of mass loss of life, and in terms of the protagonist’s character arc going someplace she spent the movie desperately trying to avoid
Car accident at beginning, a car accident is referred to and shown in flashbacks detailed scenes, main character and her best friend steal a vehicle and there is honking and tires screeching during screen. Very triggering if you have anxiety around driving.
